Peter C (nl) wrote: I have only walked out of a cinema once. The film was shit, it was a Friday afternoon and my mate texted me if I wanted to go to the pub - I went to pub.The Offender - a depressing depiction of violence, drug dealing and criminality in the prison system - could and really should have been the second time I exited stage left. What it drastically lacks in plot, dialogue and dramatic tension, it tries to compensate for with shaky, hand-held close-ups, an overloaded score and an onslaught of violence.I took nothing from it. Nothing.

Aaron B (ca) wrote: Though it can be tedious and devoid of laughs at points, Casa de mi padre is a parody that works because of the charm and hilarity of its cast.

Paul S (de) wrote: Poorly executed sex jokes targeted at tweens, but peppered with mildly explicit material. What a dumb idea. B-list acting, unbelievable characters, slow script, raunchy comedy. I can't imagine anyone with a shred of movie or sexual experience enjoying this and I wouldn't recomend it to children to begin with.

Tiberio S (nl) wrote: Steven Spielberg takes a different turn from propagandist to objective artist, jerking our feelings in multiple directions as opposed to the kind of one sidedness we see in films like Lincoln. This is by far his most challenging film, and the result creates a genuine feeling of horror for the conflict at hand without glorifying any heroes, a rare result in any Spielberg outing. As far as political thrillers, I wish every one Spielberg made was more like this - he does it incredibly well. Not since The Color Purple have we got such a gritty look at these kinds of societal conflicts. Schindler's List, Amistad, Saving Private Ryan, and Lincoln are all too full of glorification in conflicts which are more complex than anyone is willing to admit. It's also amongst the best of Janusz Kaminski's photography, who creates an atmosphere that we can live in, rather than just look at, for a near three hour picture.

Eduardo B (gb) wrote: Beautifully shot, great opening scene. As the movie progresses, it becomes more dramatic and opera-like, I expected much more.

Don S (de) wrote: Inspired by the true story... I do not recall this incident, however I am not a news hound. I found this movie to be only partially moving; the makers were trying so hard to have you care about the whales it was like being bludgeoned with a sledgehammer. Drew Barrymore is charming as always, in a gruff yet vulnerable way. I've now seen Krasinski in a couple movie recently and am not really impressed. So-so.

Greg R (ca) wrote: Along with Heavy Traffic and Wizards, this is another of my favorite Bakshi's films.

Miranda Z (ag) wrote: Absolutely awful. Shot beautifully, but romanticised the hell out of rural / Georgic / "Native American" life. And I won't even begin on the convoluted, ridiculous, idiotic narrative because then I would never stop. Melodrama like no soap opera could achieve (okay, that's really not true) - though perhaps more emotional, if only because one doesn't have the same amount of time to get used to the absurdity. But I didn't fall asleep and the actors were decent, so hey, not a 1-star.

Ricky W (es) wrote: Man this was good. What took me so long to watch it?
