David J (ru) wrote: After I watched "Happy People: A Year in the Taiga," I was reminded of a letter that Roger Ebert wrote to Werner Herzog in appreciation of Herzog dedicating his 2008 documentary, "Encounters at the End of the World" to Ebert. In his letter, Ebert wrote that Herzog is like "the storytellers of old, returning from far lands with spellbinding tales." Luckily, we exist in an age where Herzog can take his camera on his voyage to these distant lands and return with a film that captures the stunning landscapes and remarkable lifestyles of a people and culture that's so far from our own.

Paul D (es) wrote: You might need to watch this a couple of times over, as its plot is convoluted and not always making sense, but the mood and style of this chase thriller is good.
Andy H (es) wrote: I adore Steve Coogan and it is because of this film that I even know he exists. We passed this around our entire group of friends who wouldn't have watched it if it wasn't for our influence. I get it. It doesn't sound or look that great upon first glance, but you absolutely have to watch it. I have seen this movie about fifty times and can quote it verbatim and I still laugh as hard as the first time I watched it. Rock me sexy jesus.

Steve S (ag) wrote: Breathtaking footage and fascinating locales, this movie isn't just about the culture of surfing and thrill seeking it also serves to highlight the human spirit of adventure, ingenuity, and appreciation of the beauty of the natural world. Much like the sport's enthusiasts it portrays it never takes it self too seriously and the the affection the movie has for it's subjects mirrors the genuine affection the surfers have for the sport itself.

David S (nl) wrote: A classic piece nominated for 12 Academy Awards, and despite not winning many that year, it's a great film right out of the heart of cinema. With Peter O'Toole and Richard Burton leading the line, the chemistry is fantastic, the dialogue witty and well written.

Sean D (ag) wrote: I loved it! Creepy as all hell! Psychological Horror at its finest. It loses points for blatantly removing important plot points and elements like the incestuous relationship between the oldest brother and sister, regardless of the fact that the film explains that their mother married her brother...

Yoonki C (de) wrote: With Signs, M. Night Shyamalan proves himself once again that he is a master of building good suspense all through out the film. The thing about Signs that I noticed that are different than other alien invasion movies, is that Signs isn't just an alien invasion film. There are some hidden meanings, in which I probably did not fully get into my head. Signs mostly shows the perspective of one family struggling from family situations but also from the alien invasion that is about to occur. It has some amazing dialogue between each of the characters which kept my attention from a dialogue heavy film. As I said, it has a good suspense throughout the movie. It has a certain vibe that floats in the atmosphere that keeps our hands griping and sweaty. Like all M. Night's movies, it certainly has a twist which was highly effective to me. Although the suspense makes the film a thriller, there is a lot of dramatic scenes and conversations interacting with each characters and their family. That is a huge 'plus' to the movie. I felt that the film's hidden message was 'faith' between one another and believes. From the dramatic scenes, I really cared for all the characters to survive the alien invasion which led to a incredible suspenseful and very heart-felt finale. Overall, Signs is one of the best alien invasion I have ever scene and is a movie without almost no flaws.
Cory T (nl) wrote: What should be a seedy, lurid sleeper is sabotaged by two fatal flaws: a folksy drum-roll-and-harmonica score that makes it sounds like an upbeat sitcom and the overlying murder plotline is incidentally jettisoned to the sidelines for a downy, mawkish romance between Quid and Hitch. This cult classic is truly a monumental disappointment for director Frankin who surpassed Hitchcock with his magnificently heart-pumping and clever 'Psycho II'. In a vain effort to awaken the audience from their slumber, Franklin employs the creatively bankrupt use of loud jump scares with the whooshing sounds of traffic careening by. It is a very transparent ploy that Quid, who is ranting and raving about the killer's motivation and methodology to every passenger, is considered a suspect. Keach is adequate as Quid who is voyeuristic to a fault and his rapport with his dog is amusing in short spurts but Quid is too unhinged and frank to really engage our empathy. in one of his many idiotic decisions, Quid filibusters to complete strangers about strewing body parts throughout the desert wasteland. 'Road Games' is a weightless, derivative Hitchcock knockoff that doesn't generate spiky suspense insofar as the mystery aspect is a nonstarter and the protagonist is a lobotomized pawn for the killer.
