(es) wrote: Pretty terrible. Val Kilmer's charm has all but faded to dust. What the hell was Francis Ford Coppola thinking when he made this piece of hot, stale garbage? There are very few things that language can convey that could explicate how I feel about this film, but suffice it to say that I was dumbfounded at just how bad it became and how rapidly it descended into silly nonsense. Elle Fanning is always a wonder but even she can't save this story. And those weird rabbit teeth that she sported the entire film? Very bad aesthetic (characteristic?) choice. I'd watch this again just for the unintentional hilarity.

(au) wrote: It's a well-made entertaining comedy with an American taste.
(ru) wrote: A horrible piece of shit. I can't believe I sat threw it. (One of Jim Carrey's first roles.)

(ag) wrote: Wow. How do I rate this. As a movie 1 star as a b movie 5! Seriously this has to be seen to be believed. I felt like this was less a movie and more a shitty funhouse ride from a dilapidated carnival. The budget was extremely low, the editing is terrible (apparently this was 2 movies edited together) very little made sense. Also the acting is some of the worst ever.

(fr) wrote: A perfect balance of excellent writing and graphics. I understand why every known actor would want to be associated with this film. (My Opinion has nothing to do with how suprising the apperance of Mr. Telfer is) No sarcasm intended
(de) wrote: A beautifully directed film noir.
(kr) wrote: Yeah....It's a great film that all of you guys need to see. The "make-believe" baseball scene is fantastic...Njoy..., Meet John Doe..
(nl) wrote: Yes, it is funny! But, you do need to be in a jolly mode per-se, to climb into the madness and absurd humor and endless cheezyness. Its entertaining and dearing in regards to the unholy un-self rigtheousness.
(mx) wrote: Wasn't expecting much from this film but ended up loving it, Great cast and story and very well done but the ending was a big let down though.
(de) wrote: Mix Cheech and Chong with Monty Python regulars Chapman, Idle, and Cleese along with Mel Brooks collaborators Boyle, Feldman, Kahn, and Mars in this all-star pirate adventure and the outcome is not nearly as funny as one might expect. By the way, Peter Cook, James Mason, and Susannah York amongst others also make appearances. Relative newcomer Martin Hewitt plays the son of Kahn and Chapman and the key to Chapman's Yellowbeard finding his treasure again. Chapman does give the role of Yellowbeard his all, but it's as if he is in a much more serious historical adventure pic, while the rest of the comedians alternate between broad and deadpan delivery. I was curious to see all these names work together, unfortunately the gags mostly failed to produce any laughter.
