(nl) wrote: There was something about Peeples that made it really bland. It was more like a mystery film than a comedy-drama. It kept you wondering what was going to happen next... and it wasn't surprising.

(ca) wrote: Huston's final brilliant contribution to celluloid among his multi-faceted cinematic ouevre. It has a delightful touch to it. This is not your common watch: it actually reaches the level of Frears' Dangerous Liaisons (1988) and Scorsese's The Age of Innocence (1993) but, above all, this is not your common Huston. Although his classics will always remain as true definitions of a classic, this is way beyond him. This surpasses his abilities, and yet he managed to leave us this charmingly symbolic reunion as his definitive and nostalgic farewell. 86/100

(jp) wrote: I expected another sarcastic view of the Catholic church but in fact it was a story subtlety parallel to the gospel in the second half of the movie. There was the occasional religious mockery and sinful attitudes like two women (one of them a very ugly prostitute)falling in love with Nazarin who happens to act like Jesus in this movie. Like in Los Olvidados it was raw and coarse in some scenes with a part of society in which the characters happen to be prostitutes, thiefs and the poor. An intelligent and thought provoking movie.
(es) wrote: Not as good as Renoir's version of the same material. There's too much emphasis on the returning-from-war angle, and the femme fatale is not all that fatale. Nice train photography though, if you're into that sort of thing.

It Had Good Acting And Is One Of The Best Basketball Films And Samuel L. Jackson Performances.
