Bettis' direction is stylish and keeps the story going...that said, there is so much wrong here.First off, the entire premise is ridiculous. You are telling me that two hot chicks fall for this loser, creepy douchebag guy? No one would talk to that guy in real life. It also comes off as boring and pretentious, but I will say that the payoff at the end makes it worth sitting through. Still, May was the better film on all counts.

Baurushan J (au) wrote: The story is about two sisters named Lisa and Jenny Pailey played by Rose McGowan and Joanna Going who enter a peaceful town in Snowfield, Colorado. When they discover their land is deserted except for a few dead people, the two sisters are soon joined by Sheriff Bryce Hammond played by Ben Affleck and his deputies Stu Wargle played by Liev Schreiber and Steve Shanning played by Nicky Katt. After the five conclude that their entire town is missing or dead, they find a scribbled message that mentions "Timothy Flyte" and the "Ancient Enemy". After Stu gets attacked by a bizarre creature that sucks out his brain, Hammond radios for help. Timothy Flyte appears played by Peter O'Toole who is a British professor and explains the theory of the Ancient Enemy which is the name of these creatures and they periodically emerging from inside the Earth to decimate civilizations. One of the many underrated I have seen. When I first saw this movie, it was an epic, phantomic horror thriller. When I watched this recently, it didn't match my expectations but it was still as good as I remember it. No one should better be hating on this movie because this movie is the bomb (and so was Affleck)! Phantoms gets a 8.5/10.

Harry W (us) wrote: Bad Lieutenant can be summarized by the first word in the film title. It would take courage for Harvey Keitel to step of to this role, but it would take even more courage to claim you directed this piece of crap. This film actually manages to go nowhere. Nothing happens except for Harvey Keitel pulling off a depressingly hollow performance supported by a terrible script. Although it would take courage for Harvey Keitel to take on this role and is a good actor, the film provides him with repetitive boring sequences where he can do nothing that isn't cliche or massively empty. The scene where Harvey Keitel is in the church was alright, but in the end Bad Lieutenant is massively lackluster and a misfire because it doesn't capitalize on the fact that he is a lieutenant, just that he likes drugs and sex. Also, the premise is hollow, the drama is slow and in the end, it's just one of the worst movies i have ever seen.
