The movie then mix several characters, Massu, Hlie de Saint-Marc, Aussars, Trinquier, Teitgen, Bigeard etc...Stories close to famous cases like Audain are in the background. The crude imagery of "Intimate ennemy" is missing, horror needs to be shown as it was.

Apart from the offensive blackface minstrel show shoehorned in between heist scenes (as you do) and an out-of-left-field bit of overt homoeroticism with a shirtless Steve Reeves (I had to give an extra star for the sheer whiplash resulting from these two bits), this was little more than a dully-written noir with only the rotten acting and the occasional Woodian turn of phrase giving any real hints as to its origins. DP William C. Thompson actually managed to get one really good looking deep focus shot inside a theater. I'm still not entirely sure whether the omnipresent guitar score was hypnotic or maddening.
