Ken Park focuses on several teenagers and their tormented home lives. Shawn seems to be the most conventional. Tate is brimming with psychotic rage; Claude is habitually harassed by his brutish father and coddled, rather uncomfortably, by his enormously pregnant mother. Peaches looks after her devoutly religious father, but yearns for freedom. They're all rather tight, or so they claim.

(ag) wrote: Another SyFY Trash Galore. This time, the setting almost works. A Haunted High school overrun by bloodthirsty ghosts kind of reminds me of a gory Scooby Doo episode. Alas, the two main antagonist are not very interesting. I always found that, in order to be truly relatable as tangible horror, the ghosts / spirits / monsters etc. still not to adhere to (quoted by C. Carter) "realms of extreme possibility" instead of a Lovecraftian uber-capability of doing pretty much anything all the time and still fail to prevent their certain demise. The cast is not as bad as in most SyFy entries, mainly due to the fact the young kids in this film do not seem to think of themselves as serious actors in the first place, so you won't experience any talentless nitwits trying to pull of a Shakespearean performance while they are haunted by fat ghost with a giant mustache. All in all, a good ghost movie, quite haunting and not as bad as some of the rest.

It doesn't help that it is basically someone holding a camera on a single girl in a room for about an hour and a half, which unfortunately isn't as compelling as it's intended to be. Pass.

(ag) wrote: Fantastic documentary?I could not help but cry. I do not think any documentary has been able to have people open up and tell such devastating stories as this one. This film is hard to take at times because it of the sad lives that some of the people had, but it is a story that must be heard.

(us) wrote: Newman is miscast as an undercover British secret agent trying to bring down Sir George Wheeler (James Mason) who is actually a traitor. While there are some good elements to this (the prison escape scene and scenes right after) the story is a bit murky and Dominique Sanda manages to torpedo any good this film might have going for it with her uncharismatic bad acting.

(br) wrote: "Attack of the Monsters" is a mess from beginning to end. It feels like a knockoff of other heroic giant monster films, with the sympathetic human protagonists getting into trouble after a trip to a distant planet (Which happens to be the home of a giant monster) and all hope seeming lost until the titular monster comes along and saves the day and rescues the poor humans from the aliens (see "Godzilla vs. Monster Zero"). In this instance, the effects look cheap, the monsters look like they were designed by a 5-year-old, the aliens are ridiculous and the movie has some dialogue that's so bad it's hillarious ("I dream of a perfect world, without wars or car crashes"). To say the film is silly is an understatement and it gets extra negative points for the misuse of the word "cannibal", which does not, as the movie would lead you to believe, mean "man eating". If you're looking for a bad movie to make fun of, this one is very bad and it's very easy to ridicule so you'll have a great time. (English Dub on Dvd, May 4th, 2012)

(gb) wrote: This movie gets too much credit because it was directed by Don Siegel (the director of Dirty Harry). For me Eastwood was way to sub-dued. Not enough violence and one-liners. I didnt care about any of the characters, not even Coogan. Just a small blip in Eastwoods career, before he started his great Dirty Harry series.
