While $1,000 dollar shoes are obviously unethical, prolonging and potentially increasing the suffering of others isn't necessarily of any merit. Singer is an interesting thinker because he takes "man is the measure of all things" to unusual conclusions. Infanticide of defective human newborns is OK on utilitarian and consequentialist grounds, but giving apes that are as smart as humans the ability to vote is pretty out there. Shouldn't you be more worried about making sure the people that are as dumb as apes don't vote? Wisely the movie avoids these two controversial lines of thought and focuses on his idea that eating animals is wrong and helping is an obligation, much like not harming is. Zizek was good, West's bookending was appropriate. Decent mix of pop-phil.

(ru) wrote: This movie was.... the epitome of awful... I cannot think of a film that could be worse than this garbage... Leighton Meester's performance is the film's only saving grace and that is still being much too kind
(kr) wrote: Finally got to see this film after years and years of searching and boy, it did not disappoint! With Transformers like special FX, Matrix like action sequences, time travela la Terminator and a heavy helping of awesome, Returner is everything I expected and more. Short of having more transforming vehicles, I don't think I could have asked for anything more. Both Takeshi Kaneshiro and Goro Kishitani are perfect in this film. It's the kind of film that should be seen on a big screen with an audience but I had to settle on a big little screen by myself but I don't think it tarnished the experience one iota. Definately worth checking out if you haven't seen it yet. I'm glad it's now in my collection.

This movie is first movie by former Georgian (Russian) Jew now living in Israel. A 31 year olds (getting doctorate of humanities) parents and other family are arranging a marriage for him. He does not protest much but does not accept any of the offers as he has girlfriend (divorced and with a 7 year old daughter) he is already involved with. Its great seeing and hearing the cultures and tradition of others. However this movie does not go anywhere. In the end his parents intervene and he must choose between his family traditions or his love. Its still a good movie but not a 4 or 5 star movie. The film does contain one long sex scene which gave it an NC 17 rating. three stars.

(nl) wrote: Great movie. Reminds me of all fathers. Very funny. Sweet too.
(ru) wrote: Positives: more fun, even better dance scenes and Tatum is given more opportunities to be charmingly funny. Negatives: Jada Pinkett Smith and Andie MacDowell. Ultimately, it's bigger and funnier and perhaps more assured than the first, but it's plotting is still just kinda...dumb. However, anyone looking for the sexy-times promised in the first one, you won't be disappointed here.
