(ru) wrote: It's all exhaustingly dreary, and yes, while there's some great location shooting in and around London, not to mention both Wright and Ashdon being easy on the eye, it rarely shrugs off its tedious nature
(nl) wrote: Really cute story about the trials and tribulations related to coming out in the midwest (US), especially during Christmas. Fun, laugh-out-loud hilarious, and not too "in your face" or over the top; I think it's one many different kinds of people would enjoy watching during the holiday season.

While I'm a fan of Ben Stein and his normally reasonable viewpoint on divisive subjects, this particular movie starts with the "answer" and then tries to force fit supporting material in place. The low point for me was the intentional misquoting of Darwin to make it look like he supported the idea of culling the weak out of society when, in fact, the full quote says exactly the opposite. Anyone with an ounce of actual scientific curiosity will look that up and instantly dismiss this movie as pure religious propaganda.
(ca) wrote: Precious has a touching story, satisfying ending, nicely realized characters, excellent pacing and standout performances from its leads, but it is too extreme and disgusting in nature. It is definitely important, it is incredibly well acted, well crafted and it has some very emotional moments, but the direction is somewhat pretentious, the mother character is almost cartoonish and the film has too many repulsive details to bear and it is mostly too hard to watch.

(ca) wrote: i hope Alanna Ubach dies in a fucking car crash. i want her to be driving a VW punch buggy and for it to collide at 72 mph with another punch buggy so her head will come through the tiny windshield. and i hope she's on the way to the beach so does that stupid move that girls do where they stick their feet out the window while the car is moving. that way her legs get cut into 20 pieces by the other VW's mirror and god i fucking hate everyone who had anything to do with this shit.
(ca) wrote: Still charming after all these years, this old rom-com may just be one of the best. And while Gable and Colbert give memorable performances, it's the priceless, hilarious ending that I will forever remember it for.
(nl) wrote: In 1989, a young boy is kidnapped by a local madman and raised to be a soulless killer. When Allison makes the mistake of trying to save him, she becomes trapped in the pair's murderous game! Director Stevan Mena returns with a bloody tale of nature versus nurture that takes us back to the slaughterhouse in BEREAVEMENT, the highly-anticipated prequel to 2004's hit MALEVOLENCE. Anyone who may have written MALEVOLENCE off as being cheap imitation will have much to consider now. Mena demonstrates all of the same skill and control as he had shown previously, but this time without the obvious references to HALLOWEEN or TEXAS CHAIN SAW that may have lessened the impact for some viewers.BEREAVEMENT is a much different film than before, focusing far more on the personalities of the characters and the psychosis of the killer. This, again, is no FRIDAY THE 13TH. The people presented on screen are smart, realistic, and rounded individuals. We care for them, and as a result, the tension and suspense soar because we do not want to see them get hurt. Their deaths have meaning. Mena has put together a much stronger cast, with exceptional performances by Michael Biehn, John Savage, and Alexandra Daddario. The biggest praise goes to Spencer List in the role of Martin, however, whose emotionless performance and unflinching expressions capture the essence of the character perfectly. List is never assumed to be evil, he is just blank. The success of BEREAVEMENT lies solely on the believability of this performance, and List excels in the role. With key cinematography by Marco Cappetta, another thrilling score, and a more intelligent script overall, BEREAVEMENT shows an advancement in style and form for the now-established director. The Masters of Horror will need to scoot over to make room for Stevan Mena at the dinner table. -Carl ManesI Like Horror Movies
