(gb) wrote: Well we had claymation animation, computer animation, Lego animation and now little plastic action figures that have their turn for a movie, and I want more of it.The story to Panic Village is about are two main character's Cowboy (Stphane Aubier) and Indian (Bruce Ellison) -- who plan to buy a birthday gift for their friend Horse (the voice of Vincent Patar) but accidentally destroy his house. A series of wacky, often hallucinatory adventures ensues that finds the trio journeying to the center of the earth, wandering across icy tundra and discovering a strange aquatic world inhabited by oddball beings with pointed heads.Cowboy and Indian are basically the two stooges doing funny but stupid things to push the plot along. Horse is a lot smarter and more grown up then those two funny idiots and it's funny how animal like a horse has to take care of two grown humans for their stupidity, but even horse has it's stupid but funny moments. Are main characters go through a strange adventure and meeting new people who are basically two things: Strange or barking mad, like this one scene where Cowboy, Horse and Indian come across there's mad scientist in there big metal penguin, and what they do all day is control the penguin to throw giant snowballs at people for a joke, and you can already guess what kind of movie this is. I enjoyed watching A Town Called Panic. It has great animation and three funny character's that I was totally on board with. I'm a bit shocked that not much people are talking about this movie, maybe they don't even know this exist and that is just unacceptable. The movie isn't for everyone, it's just like Adventure Time not everybody isn't going to find they kind of entertainment, but I have a soft spot for those kind of humor so it's all good... for me.Do I recommend Panic Town to people and yes I do, but before they do I should asked them to put all the logic to the side and just expect what's on the screen and maybe they might find it funny enough for entertainment.
(mx) wrote: this film had a good story line and a they could do so much with it- but they failed in the acting and too much in getting to the temple- when there was like 5 mins there? a bigger budget would have made a better film

For it's Herman Melville story is only used as an inspiration, serving it only as a backdrop to the way of life of how the 'French Foreign Legion' operate- documentarian style, since there's like zero plot. I've seen well made French Foreign Legion movies such as "The Hill" and so forth, but none as of late, or as realistically depicted as this movie. At least 85% of the movie showcases them mostly in training mode, as they eat sleep, behave and train. Many of the movies shown about the "French Foreign Legion" has always shown them residing in the Sahara desert, and it's quite usual to see them reside and do much of there training in Africa. It stars veteran, French actor, Denis Lavant, as Galoup and he's narrating his entire experience while becoming a Legionnaire, before he inherited a much higher rank. The first time I had watched this, totally put me to sleep since I was searching for a premised when it should be viewed as a documentarian movie. The only actual emotional action I saw throughout the entire movie, finally came through when a former Legionnaire punching Galoup for kicking a water canteen just because this legionnaire wanted to give this other guy some water. It's not for everybody's tastes. 3 out of 4 stars
(ca) wrote: Genuinely hilarious, effectively a higher budget episode, resulting in some great comedy.
(gb) wrote: While Jim Carrey offers some laughs, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls feels like a step backwards from its predecessor and his career, especially after big hits like The Mask and Dumb and Dumber, it has the humor but it lacks the care and heart of the first film!
(es) wrote: Enjoyable if a little absurd.

(ru) wrote: Renny Harlin's Prison is another one of those obscure films that didn't find an audience immediately when it was released, but because of the word-of-mouth on the film and the constant bootlegging, the film managed to snag a small base of fans. Outside of franchise sequels, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Prison is possibly Renny Harlin's best film. He's a talented director, has a keen visual sense, and directs the hell out his movies, but the story details in his films are always hazy and performances don't feel all that genuine. His movies are fun, which is the best way to describe them, but they aren't much more beyond that. I'd say that Prison is a little more than just fun and tries to do something a bit more story and character-driven. It has a strong cast, including an early leading role by Viggo Mortenson, a pretty well-laid out story, a bevy of impressive visuals and great special effects. It's been lost in obscurity for years, but now people can finally get to see what Renny was trying to do with the film. After all, it did more or less get him the job of directing A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, which was his first big break.

(ca) wrote: A pity that Brannagh stumbled with this one as it had all the right ingredients to succeed. Visuals are pretty good, apart from that ridiculous Busby Berkeley staircase at the Frankenstein mansion.
(ru) wrote: A good effort, but falls far short of the book. Dean is not nearly as crazy as he was, and Sal looks creepy and his voice over is awful, more Jack Nicholson than Jack Kerouac! Viggo ruled as Old Bull Lee as did Amy Adams as his wife! And the rest of the cast is good too! BeUtifull cinematography too! A good effort, but read the book first, and often!
