Upon being released from jail for a stupid mistake, Ned is kicked off of the organic farm he lives and works on by his ex-girlfriend Janet who also insists on keeping his beloved dog, Willie Nelson. Having nowhere else to go, he turns to his family, three ambitious sisters and an overbearing mother. Ned crashes at each of their homes, in succession, and brings honesty, happiness and a sunny disposition into their lives. In other words, he wreaks havoc.
(jp) wrote: ignore patronising critique of this film parading as moderation, modernity and common sense - when it's only promulgating typical anti-christian spiel. kendrick is a natural director, juggling many themes in one resounding story. it's not just a dissent against the usual hollywood fluff pretending to be profound. the film identifies and resolves social dilemmas (crime, rectitude, accountability, anguish), expressing them in pungent and often raffish terms.

(fr) wrote: It's intimidating, before watching Gone With The Wind for the first time. You think, 'Damn, a 4 hour movie???'. But somehow it doesn't feel that long. Maybe it's the pacing and direction. Maybe it's the cast and performances. But after watching you realize that you've just watched one of the best movies ever made. The scale of the film alone...is massive. It's so BIG. Everything about it. The cinematography and production design. The costumes, the score. The characters of Scarlet O'Hara and Rhett Butler. The performances of Gable and especially, Leigh. Not to mention, Hattie McDaniel and Olivia de Havilland. Gone With the Wind ...a true cinematic EPIC.

He blows into Saigon in 1965, and turns armed forces radio inside out with his extraordinary comic delivery. Williams' brilliant manic monologues are so uproarious that they carry the rest of this film which is superb, but a little slow-paced. Fine direction by Barry Levinson, with wonderful supporting performances by Forrest Whitaker, Tung Than Tran, Chintara Sukapatana, Bruno Kirby, Robert Wuhi, J.T. Walsh, Noble Willingham, and Richard Edson. The film has impressive period detail, and a great movie soundtrack filled with classic popular 60s hits. But like i said before it's Robin Williams' supremely funny and charismatic performance that makes this film a must-see. Highly Recommended.
(de) wrote: Starts off as a kind of standard, low budget made in Canada sci-fi movie with an interesting idea. Then all of a sudden the middle becomes a great comedy as Cheryl Ladd, as a woman from the future, has to find ways to seduce Kris Kristofferson to keep him from being at a certain place at a certain time. She's unfamiliar with a lot of the 1980's and Ladd shows she could handle comedy in this rare occasion she's given some. But then, like Cinderella, the clock strikes midnight and the funny stuff disappears and we're back into the low budget made in Canada sci-fi movie. That movie is okay at best, but the comedy that got away is very enjoyable.
