Young Ondra has asthma and so his parents throw away his favourite toy: a musty old stuffed bear named Kooky. That night Ondra dreams that Kooky is determined to find his way back home from the dump. In the boy's fantasy, the bear gets lost in a forest occupied by strange animals and remarkable beings that he never heard of while living on the toy shelf in Ondra's room. And of course even in this small imaginary world, true good exists as does real evil, which Kooky must face up to in order to become a real hero.

Archibald T (gb) wrote: Tremendously depressing and highly disturbing film that was inspired by an actual story. I read about it after watching the movie because before the end credits pop up they have this disclaimer that reads 'Inspired by a true story' and they were right on the money with that one. They did change a lot of it like the names and situation, but the fact that she meets someone over the internet to kill her wasn't changed. That stuff is fact and I found that shocking. As for the film itself, it is very bleak. I wouldn't recommend it someone unless they've had their fill of disturbing films. Maria Bello's performance, however, is incredible. She does a very good job at playing a very difficult character and I applaud her for that alone. Jason Patric was surprisingly good, and creepy. Rufus Sewell was outstanding as an emotionless husband. I liked the brutal honesty of the film, but wouldn't want to watch it again unless it's been a year or two later. Overall, very different.

Chris B (de) wrote: A great intro with one of the famous lines from the series in it, Zatoichi cuts the candle in the room out shrouding the men surrounding him in darkness and says "Darkness is my ally" and strikes them all down in one stroke each! The action doesn't let up much throughout the film either as there are a number of skirmishes and battles throughout. Another very solid and fast paced action film in the Zatoichi series!

Charles G (ca) wrote: This film is still interesting to watch. Cary Grant was good at both Serious and Comedy roles.

Gavin P (es) wrote: A great - and now common - premise: three different versions of the same events that lead to a murder are recounted, and it's only at the end that we learn the truth is a mix of them all. Some average fight scenes and it really annoys me when they use the over-the-top fake maniacal laughing. Mifune is good as Tajomaru, the bandit and Kyo is versatile as the wife, Masago - Mori doesn't have too much to do as Takehiro, her husband and the victim. Because it's in black & white, there's no subtle difference in each retelling of the murder - just the same bush. Not too long and a good ending, it's a semi-obvious murder-mystery that could've been slightly better, or slightly worse.
