That, or the actors got paid by the amount of words they use. Can you say low-budget? My grandfather is dead and he has more and better things to say.
Ben L (au) wrote: Thanks to my love of British humor and action movies, I suspected that Wild Target was going to be a huge success for me. The story involves an old-fashioned hitman played by Bill Nighy, a reckless thief played by Emily Blunt, and a stoned car-washer played by Rupert Grint. These 3 unlikely people fight with one another, help each other, and run for their lives in this wacky adventure. The opening act was spectacular. The humor was subtle and Nighy pulled off the reluctant killer moments perfectly. I thought the movie struggled a little bit in the middle, though. There were some needless scenes that felt oddly out of place in Wild Target, perhaps if they were inserted in different places in the film they would work, but as it stands the pacing gets jumbled because of some of these moments. Also they struggled to integrate Grint's character into the narrative. It was almost like he was a hasty addition to the script that they didn't know how to use. Don't get me wrong, he has moments that I found hilarious, but it was almost like those scenes were pulled from a different movie. In the final act things pick up again (both in comedy and action.) I loved Martin Freeman's character, and how he was integrated into the story. Things resolved in a predictable fashion, but it still worked, so it's hard to complain. Wild Target is a unique film I had never heard of before, and one that I'll gladly watch again, but I can't imagine anyone picking it as a "favorite" film.
