Some youngsters cajole a couple of their friends to help in their attempt to make a documentary about a dancer who disappeared and was said to have been murdered, and whose body was never found. Rumors abound, causing much of the village where she lived to become deserted. After getting a lead from an oddball villager, they decide to break into the house which is said to be the site of the murder. What they find there is much more than they ever could have bargained for...

Gwen's death as sad as it is, lacks the emotional impact that it will normally have. It's like the company didn't learn anything from Spiderman 3's problems.

Hooper has had a spotty career since the mid 80's but I generally find something to like and have been entertained by his misfires. With controversy and an extreme delayed release with Djinn, I am not sure if the version that I saw was the original Hooper version that screened at a festival or two or the alleged reshot one that was hacked up in an effort to not offend the Arabic community. While there is nothing groundbreaking, the camera work is good and is reminiscent of other Hooper movies. Ultimately it was cool to see Hooper mix in with the Arabic culture to present a movie that while cliched and predictable, still had a semblance of suspense. Some of the dialogue was a little off and came out awkward but the actors weren't bad. In fact, most of the female cast were stunningly beautiful. While Tobe Hooper may never reach the highs of Texas Chainsaw 1 and 2, The Funhouse, Poltergeist (which probably has the strongest connection to Djinn), and Lifeforce, Djinn is a step forward into territories such as Toolbox Murders, and his Masters of Horror episodes where he shows that he isn't very interested in retreating similar past cinematic ground that a lot of filmmakers seem to retreat to.

Otherwise, if you aren't under the influence of drugs while watching this movie, you pretty much are in for one bizarre boring movie about Santa Claus, a bachelor but with too many submissive kids in his custody, floating on a cloud in outer space and battling the devil and the reindeer are these animatronic type of machines. I swear, this is why people started smoking pot in the 1960's to watch movies like this and totally fry their brains for about 90 minutes.
(br) wrote: Decent but not as good as the Exorcist. More an adult version and alot more sexually charged which is typically Italian. The Disneyfied flying effects were a dissapointment but some of the cinematography and editing was particuarly impressive.
