(gb) wrote: When compared to the likes of Hunger Games, it fails in beating it. However, next to pretty much every other current franchise it is a major success. For starters, an interesting adaptation of the novel and event acting certainly guide the plot in the right direction. It never seems to lose pace, although towards the end starts to become a little dry; in the sense that the director didn't seem to quite know what to do next. The sequel doesn't even compare to this.Verdict: B
(ru) wrote: The critics bashed this movie for everything that makes it great. It's real. Its acting is unparalleled and it delivers past expectations. This is what critics are afraid of. This works well in film, and does not work any less than I imagine it would on stage. 5/5.
(gb) wrote: More messy than quirky low budget comedy, original but borderline boring, which is too bad because there were some great ideas there.

(mx) wrote: I wonder if this movie was made with all the people who would be so startled by it in mind? I found nothing to get flustered about, simply lots of things that were laugh-out-loud funny. Not nearly as violent as I thought it would be; in fact, they *show* very little objectionable material, merely hint at it and talk about it. A lot. I thought this movie was great.

(br) wrote: I thought this movie was funny and clever. This movie is great to watch when you got nothing better to do. The only reason I watched it was because of Nolte and Roberts but the movie isn't one of my favorites.
(ca) wrote: Good movie. Don't like how many dramatic liberties they took on Chaplin's life because his life was interesting enough to make a good three hour or so movie. RDJ's performance is really what makes this worth wild

(es) wrote: From the writer of "The Wild Bunch" comes this terrible teenage sci-fi flick. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic police state where water is in short supply and a group of teens who play a game that appears to be a hybrid of Rollerball and floor hockey are led working in a concentration camp style orphanage. They then find a magical orb that helps them escape and find a few home free of their overseers. There's a surprisingly decent cast that includes adult actors Richard Jordan, Charles Durning and Bruce Payne, along with teen actors Jami Gertz, Jason Patric, Lukas Haas, James Le Gros, and Adrian Pasdar. And considering screenwriter Green's excellent filmography, I can only guess that he was brought in to script doctor an even worse script. In any case, it's a pretty terrible movie with not much to recommend other than getting to see a bunch of future stars in teenage roles.
(de) wrote: It is really a darn shame that Under the Yum Yum Tree is not available on DVD, it is so entertaining. Story of a young sorority girl who moves into an apartment with her boyfriend under the circumstances they don't sleep together to test their compatibility. The problems arise when the lusty landlord living next door, who had had relationships with all previous tenants and didn't plan to stop with this one. Jack Lemmon is absolutely hilarious as the landlord, and Carol Lynley is absolutely ravishing and quite funny as well as the tenant and Dean Jones is also very good as her boyfriend. Definately one worth watching, try to catch it on TCM as I think that's the only way you'll get the chance. Overall 3.5/4 Stars Grade = B+
(de) wrote: Not too bad of a movie, interesting story etc. there was some questions during it which maybe the people that made the movie missed, overall it was alright and worth the watch. Nice seeing Quinn from Dexter in there
