Josh S (ru) wrote: Wow.I'm not entirely sure if this is a ****1/2 film. Perhaps it is more or less but this is a completely major piece of filmmaking. It is long, it is unruly, it is uneven, it is fairly brilliant. Desplechin's mise-en-scene creates a world remembered, and his attention to period detail (which IMMERSES you in 19th London) leaves no doubt that the memory is personable. Summer Phoenix's performance is a strange one, blank like an alien's but intentionally so such that her register is unnerving. The narrative is a simple one. Now she is empty, now she is full. Esther Kahn is an out-of-body experience that I am still sorting out.

D M (nl) wrote: Michael Keaton plays a building contractor poorly dealing with life's stresses. He happens upon a scientist who is able to make duplicates of him, so he decides to take advantage of the situation so he can be in many places at once in order to satisfy everyone in his life (boss, wife, kids, friends, etc). The copies of the copies aren't nearly as sharp as the original, so problems start to occur including losing his job and having his wife leave him. The Simpsons did a parody of this in Treehouse of Horror XIII. Even with the always funny Eugene Levy and Andie MacDowell (my first Hollywood-crush), this movie still kinda sucks.

Cooper H (it) wrote: The only peace this movie achieves is the feeling it gives you once it's over. Boring and dull, this franchise stumbles to a conclusion without ever progressing the characters relationships.
