It's like applying fine white lace to a garment made of coarse unbleached wool. It's messy. All the refinements get lost very quickly. The visuals are very poignant, the acting is good for the most part, and the scenario quite enjoyable. Had they cut out all the fighting, it would have made a pretty good movie. I would definitively enjoyed it more. However, if you're a fan of asian style wire fighting, impossible odds, beyond measure heros in action, then you'll have no problem enjoying this fine film. If not, then patiently sit through the battles and wait for the conclusion for closure.

We've got Jeff Goldblum, we've got Lance Henrikson, we've got Mary Steenburgen, we've got an albino kid with magical super powers that we don't fully understand. The movie just doesn't work. From the director of Jeepers Creepers comes white kids can shoot electricity out of their hands... It needs a better title. Oh, let's call it Powder.

Rod H (fr) wrote: This movie simply has no reason to exist. Awkward and tacked-on, the movie plays out like they just had no idea for a sequel but wanted to make one anyway. Nothing about it is enjoyable.
Steve W (gb) wrote: This interesting comedy is about the mishaps and adventures of three women, the daughter and rebel of a general, the daughter of a opera troupe, and a thief. All their paths cross when they get mixed up in political intrigue and even some action, for a very interesting little film from Tsui Hark in his early days.

Carmela (ag) wrote: Still reeling from the excitement of Sinatra and Kelly - singing, dancing, and romancing, as the caption says. I loved the quiet, shy Frank Sinatra. The poor fellow, getting tutored in love from the scheming, sneaky Gene Kelly. But - what dancing! What excitement! The stretches of musical routine fit perfectly into the story - the classical music from Jose Iturubi (thrilling!), the cartoon sequence (a little stretched-out, but crazy unique and effective), Kelly's dance to Kathryn Grayson (wonderfully blended into the real-life tale). Love the Navy, love the little boy who adored Kelly, love the happy, happy feeling I get watching it!
Kristin R (mx) wrote: I hate to disagree with all the amazing reviews below, but for me, this was a complete and utter yawn fest. I do not like these kind of movies, which are more of a study of the human condition than entertainment. If I want to know how messed up peoples lives are, I would just look at my own. Life is depressing enough without having to be depressed by a movie.
