La Notte torrent reviews

Lee M (ag) wrote: Disappearance simply delivers all of the series strengths and none of its weaknesses; a tense, brooding narrative, memorable characters, and subtle yet powerful sci-fi themes. Without ever threatening to explode or provide unnecessary climax, Disappearance holds its world in the balance and its viewer on the edge.

Kyle G (de) wrote: Intriguing, and even intriguing-looking, no matter how you approach it. Some moments are sloppy or overreaching, but these are outweighed by a beautiful and thoughtful story. And even though many of the aesthetic choices have the feeling of hip, indie-film presumption -- for instance, a many-faceted and multicultural cast juggled around an ambiguous screenplay -- they build to a cleverness that's less cut-and-dry, manipulative sentimentality (a la Crash) and more fresh, take-it-as-it-is poetics (a la Me And You And Everyone We Know).

Cynthia S (ca) wrote: 3 3/4's..Decent bio-drama. A little rough around the edges, but decently done. Derek Luke does a fine job. The story of what happened in this country is never a dull one.

Harrison W (jp) wrote: Like a classical version of Magnolia but less impressive in every way. One decent twist, another notsomuch. Kinda cheap when a large part of the drama relies on a wacky misunderstanding. I'M TALKING TO YOU TOO, SHAKESPEARE.

John K (br) wrote: It's hard to believe anyone does not like this movie. But I guess those who simply can't stand musicals may feel that way. This movie is the pinnacle of what movies could be back in the day when there were still legions of talented dancer/singers about. That's not today, because the studios went to computer FX, and the cost of producing an Oliver today would be prohibitive. But I just wish to say that negative reviewers should accept Oliver for what it is, a big production with great music and acting. That's what it tried to be, so don't lambast the movie for not being a Fast and Furious or a Casablanca. I don't think it's so light as not to touch on any of the Dickensian themes. Sikes is a scary character and is not sweetened up at all.

Trent M (us) wrote: Not as good as "meet Frankenstein". Still, it's got the guys playing off of Karloff and has some funny moments.

Aaron R (ag) wrote: Sometimes you got to stand up and take your beating.
