The characters are all exaggerated, stupid stereotypes (except for Zooey Deschanel's character, who simply lacks depth). When the film asks for you to emphasize with them near the end, it is impossible because the characters are just too grating and unbelievable. Avoid, please.

This farce about American medical students gaining an education in Central America has a few good laughs-- including a sequence involving a dead body that 'Weekend At Bernie's' totally ripped off three years later.

McQueen brings a lot (singing aside) to the character of Henry Thomas, playing his despairation with a quiet simmering menace. He could have gone more stereotypical Southern yokel but plays the part with respect and depth. A good way to spend 100 minutes.

Caesar M (ag) wrote: I've given out many zeroes and complained allot why that film deserves that rating. So what makes this one any different? Simple, one should never combine politics and Christmas together into a movie unless it's a political satire or comedy of some kind, but instead we have a film that is pure propaganda and a drama that it full of itself. Last Ounce of Courage is literally a movie about a man celebrating Christmas in a time when it's outlawed and happily shove its political message down your throat. The film started innocently with a Ronald Reagan quote about protecting and fighting for our freedom. It showed family saying goodbye to a young going to the military and for a moment I thought it was going to explore the courage it must take for anyone serving their country to keep on fighting knowing what they have to loose. Nope, instead the writers thought it would be more interesting to focus on a "rebellious act" where celebrating Christmas is consider offensive. Why someone would use a holiday like Christmas to send a message about fighting for our freedom is anyone guess. Last Ounce of Courage easily contains the worst writing ever for a Christmas and the worst writing for a movie that came out this year. I have no idea where to begin on the very poor writing. I have no idea if I should start with the Supreme Court having an order to take down one Christmas tree or how one of the writers had the bright idea of having a Reagan quote in a Christmas movie. Either way, this movie is the textbook definition of Razzie winning material. The fact that the line "Can I talk to you about that door" is even utter is a testament to clueless writing. I have to be honest for I never imagined I would ever see a pharmacist who is not only a war veteran, but also the mayor of a small town. The writers also fail grasp how dating works in real life. One man would not ask a woman out to dinner after telling that woman about his wife leaving him. A man would also not talk about your date dead husband over the course of the date. Also, this town is really boring. Just the fact a man could get on the news just for putting up a single Christmas decoration is so stupid I couldn't laugh. I have to simply say I literally kept punching the air imagining I was punching the writers because of how awful it presents its idea that it will test everyone tolerance. I could literally spend several paragraphs detailing everything wrong with the writing, but everything else is equally as bad. The acting is very wooden and none actors look convincing in their roles. A motorcycles gang does not look like a group of chubby single men. Also it lazy film making at it worst. Just the lone fact that the film makers used CG for Christmas lights is lazy. The worst crime the film commits is taking itself to seriously. It literally believes what its saying is worth caring about. If it was worth caring about then why play patriotic music when you have a character just taking about putting up a Christmas tree. I would keep complaining why this movie is awful, but it's not worth talking about it in great length. It's slow agonizingly slow, has cardboard characters to go along with the even more wooden acting, and many, many, many more flaws. Last Ounce of Courage tested my tolerance like no other bad film has ever done before. Just the fact it takes itself so seriously and blindly believes its sending a message about preserving our freedom through Christmas is insulting. Its a film that insults anybody that has ever fought for their country which is goes beyond tasteless film making. This is without a shed of doubt the worst movie release of 2012.
