I enjoyed the idea and plot of the second Cocoon, However it was not the original "Cocoon". I think that the sequel could of just passed right on by. you know, sail away. Fly away real fast. What I didn't think was that it would be any good at all, but boy was I wrong. Yea,yea, okay I heard it already! This was a sucky sequel. Yes, I know the first was really, really good, and this might of been alot worse comapared to it, but for better or worse, it wasn't all that bad as they say. "Cocoon is one of those movies that can last entire generation, but 'Cocoon; The return is for lackthereof, a film the couldn't even survive the shadow of it's great predacessor, but still somehow found it's way out into the light." Andrew I (de) wrote: This is quite an unusual, yet somehow very mundane film with a peculiar line in very gentle Japanese comedy. The cinematography is terrible at times, the pace is fairly slow and a lot of the dialogue is longwinded. However, it did have a peculiar charm on occasions and the general weirdness of the film and 1959 Japan just about held my interest until the happy ending. I also learned not to eat powdered pumice stone!

Plummer got an Oscar for this? It was painfully slow, and I found it extremely depressing on every level. Definitely one of, if not the worst film I've ever suffered through. I might prefer to have my wisdom teeth out again.
Karen R (jp) wrote: It was filmed a bit dark but it's sentiments hit the nail on the head for me. Already, those who question the Govt's authority to tax at will, spend without consideration of those who provide the funds, and speak out about corruption, are being demonized. I think the plot could have said so much more and done so much more...
