It's not perfect but everyone behaves pretty realistically. The villain is excellent, and the director did an amazing job of making him as menacing as possible in every shot. And oh my, the gore effects are the highlight. They are insane and it's hard to think of anything better that I've ever seen. A lot of familiar faces in the cast too.

The first half hour is poor but overall, the film redeems itself and delivers on modest expectations. We get imagination, both paranoid and grotesque, and an eerie vibe that grows more compelling as the film progresses.

The film is about the start of the FBI, based in a time when Government agents were not allowed weapons and were weaklings compared to the gangsters of the depression era. Cagney plays a lawyer who decides to become one of the G-Men in hopes of finding the man that killed his friend and mentor. When the tough little lawyer comes into the mix, the FBI learns it must seriously change its laws to fight against violent crime.
