Ren ( 1/2) plays a fine villian providing good dialogue, Cheung ( 1/4 (R) 1/4?) as the cop in charge plays a fine intense good guy, buy Chen (...?) is so annoying & her character is such a show off with some embarrassing lines. The most embarrassing scene in this film when the director To, shows when all of the cops are having lunch, because the bad guys are having something to eat.

(de) wrote: A surrealistic, philosophical take on love, life, and sex.Beautiful visuals, performances and background score. It is also about various lives, connected by an author whose novel has become inextricably entwined with his own life. The film is very Lynchian in its lack of structure and non adherence to any linear time-line and as a result is open to various interpretations. A triumph in European cinema.

This is the proverbial train wreck your mother warned you about... the gruesome roadside accident that you can't take your eyes off. As the slightly less animated (i.e. boring) insane, nonsensical meglomaniac methodically presents his personal attack against the personal attacks made against him by the wildly animated, insane, nonsensical meglomaniac to whom he as been bound in all his 'best' films. To hear of the extremity of Klaus Kinski's lunacy as seen thru the prism of Werner Hertzog's delusional paranoia is a thing of human beauty and grotesqueness. Two thumbs ... and the finger of a South American extra shot off by Klaus Kinski... up. Abandon all common sense and watch this post haste.

Like setting up a contrast between a one-dimensional conventional Jewish fiance and a cool, beautiful hippie girl? Like films where Jewish yentas get left at the altar? Is this hilarious to you? Then this piece of you-know-what is for you.

Their performances, in that quick and lively manner of old cinema, flies off their tongues. The plot and "message" of the film is that one should always "follow one's dreams," and while that's not a new story, it will never be old.Overall, this is a wonderful time at the movies, and Grant and Hepburn are in top form.
