Once again stretching the capability of the human body, Daniel Craig's James Bond at least seemed a little more human. Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) appealed to my sensibilities and I liked some of the other characters and set locations. There is some beautiful scenery in this film but also a lot going on. It took a review of Wikipedia afterwards to comprehend all that had occurred but this is likely my weakness and may not be yours. For one of the first times, looking forward to the next Bond film and seeing how well Craig represents. Based upon my prior reviews of this historically frustrating franchise, I'm giving this film 3.5 stars.

They had no real evidence to convict him and it didnt make sense to search for the lady with the odd hat because it wasnt needed; she wasnt the only one who could save him. The bartender already said he remembered him; so it shouldn't matter if he didnt remember the lady! The plot just defies logic. What saves the film is Siodmark's masterful direction. Theres a couple of memorable scenes that stand out. In particular one sequence in which the accused murderer's girlfriend comes into the bar and just stares at the bartender every night. She then follows him after work. He is so rattled by it. Just a brilliantly shot sequence and what a unique way of bringing out that pyschological tension the bartender was going through. The acting is ok..nothing special but nothing memorable either. I think the film needed Bogart in the lead lol. Overall..noir fans should enjoy this despite some issues.
