The only great thing about this movie was seeing Russell Wong on the silver screen again, but I was a bit disappointed to see a bit of paunch on the usually gorgeous Russell. This melodramedy-soap opera was rather pedantic and predictable with condescending rabid Chinese stereotypes which I blame on the script writer and not the actors, who are all major Asian American actors. For sure, the script had "Western" clarity of dialogue and the plot/reactions/emotional distance rang true with Chinese cultural brevity. I REALLY wanted to like this movie even though it had me in tears in a few scenes. Overall, this movie does aptly depict a realistic Chinese American family as many of the inter relationships are pretty similar to that of my own. Now allow me to digress....Russell Wong is 47? Say it ain't so! That watermelon scene is forever forged into my brain! Nonetheless, I'm glad I still went to see this movie to support APA films.

It has a wonderful cast that do terrific at giving you a great glimpse into the real life story of a rodeo champion from his very early humble beginnings to him reaching all the goals he aspired to be.If you like a good story without all the mess that a lot, these days fill with a gratuitous amount of violence and destruction, this is the movie for you.He is sorely lost still today.Another of my top 5 to pull out and watch on a day I feel like being inspired.
Reece L (it) wrote: Allen's films are all generally characterized by an endearingly-dour outlook on life, and yet, in the case of "Danny Rose", the paranoid and afflicted beats known to be staples of his work give way to a light and airy tone, to splendid results. With its heaps of charm, wonderful performances from Allen and Farrow, gentle comedy, and a focus on the good in people, it earns a special place in the prolific director's body of work.

Allan C (nl) wrote: Probably the best of the MGM Tarzan films with some very exciting scenes, particularly the lion attack finale. The film also includes a surprising amount pre-production code of naughtiness , with Mia Farrow's mom in some pretty racy outfits as Jane and Tarzan and his "mate" sharing a bed, not to mention the skinny dipping scene. It's all pretty tame by today's standards, but it's not what you typically see in classic Hollywood films.
