Lightning Over Braddock: A Rustbowl Fantasy
Tony Buba, a film maker from Braddock, Pennsylvania, tells the story of his hometown's decline (along with the rest of the steel mill towns along the Monongahela River) while he dreams of making higher budget films. The picture documents, in a lighthearted way, the community anxiety and activism that accompanied the failure of the steel industry around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Malachy (Grint) is the do-gooder hanging with the wrong crowd, Luke (Sheehan) is the kid on the wrong side of the tracks with an incredibly dysfunctional family, and Michelle (Nixon) is the prodigal screw-up returning home to cause mayhem within her own family as well as between our two childhood friends. The fireworks and chaos are immediate when these three join forces, but said chaos is predictable. I didn't feel like this story contributed anything new to this constantly rehashed tale. I only watched it because of Grint and he doesn't bring anything to the table either. Don't bother with this one. Not even for the Grint.

I find this to be the most bittersweet of Morris' films, I think it has the greatest possibility for two different viewers to walk away, one finding the film hilarious, the other finding it sad. In my mind, they're both right.

This is one of those movies that is perfect on a Sunday afternoon, when you just want to be entertained by someone else's life. The pancake scene is just plain funny. The characters are believable, and you find yourself sometimes relating their actions to people you may have known personally. Having been around boxers a lot growing up, this movie has enough realism from that world to be believable. All in all, it's a generally funny movie, and a feel good buddy road flic.
