(jp) wrote: Uneven that satisfying "chick flick". As if there was still a question, the chemistry between Lowe and Moore that we'd already seen in several "Brat Pack" movies is confirmed here, since they go much deeper into the sexual part of that chemistry than they ever have before. Even though it's obvious that this is the role she has been given by the writers, Elizabeth Perkins' character is many times too whiny and too negative to keep the lightheartedness of this movie going. And while he's not quite as negative, the brashness of Jim Belushi does sometimes get in the way here. But they also exemplify the movie's main problem here: it tries to be fully lighthearted, but the situations that Lowe and Moore are put in are many times too dark, and cast a pall over the tone of the flick. The script tries way too hard to rip the relationship apart even before it has a chance to build the foundation for the viewers. Nevertheless, the two main leads do a fine acting job with what they're given, and despite a saccharine ending, it's still a very watchable motion picture.
