Justin O (nl) wrote: The only funny movie Pauly Shore's ever done, because it makes fun of him. He finally got it.

John R (ca) wrote: Great action, neat characters, fun weapons, cool villains = a lot of fun. I'd buy this series if I wasn't so low on cash and buying movies didn't seem so stupid right now.

Mike M (es) wrote: Hollywood would come to dress up this idea of noir: what is Le Panama, if not a shabbier, *shackier* version of the lonely-hearts club Rick's Bar in "Casablanca", and what's the incestuous intrigue Gabin gets himself into, involving Morgan's meddling guardian Simon, if not a seaside gift-shop version of "The Big Sleep"? (The penultimate words are "Kiss me, quick", after all.) We'd have to wait until "In a Lonely Place", though, for a definition of fatalism better phrased than Gabin's "If it wasn't this, it'd have been something else". Even with the presence of the dumbly loyal mutt who follows the soldier everywhere he goes, "Quai des Brumes" knows it doesn't have to contrive a happy ending for itself, because it's already overwhelmingly apparent that happiness can only ever be fleeting in this world: one promenade around a funfair with your gal before it all kicks off again. The card of its vividly excellent cast is only blotted by Brasseur as the primmest-looking mobster in the movies: his Lucien would surely be more at home touting hats in ladies' department stores, and very nearly makes Jimmy Carr seem butch. Otherwise, Carne manages to transcend any residual theatricalism in Prevert's adaptation by using Le Panama as a rough-hewn basecamp from which to explore the outskirts of a port town in the early hours of the morning, a succession of noble suicides and squalid murders, and lives that forever drift in and out with the fog. As Gabin puts it, in a moment of lucidity as the mist lifts and clears: "Buddy, we're all just passing through."

Abigail R (jp) wrote: It's pretty ordinary, and for me I only watched it as a big fan of Bruce Willis. If it had any other actor in his place I'd give it one star. Didn't quite get there plot wise but overall I found it watchable.
