Loco Boy Makes Good

The stooges decide to get some easy money by having Curly slip on a bar of soap in a hotel lobby so they can sue the owner. Curly slips as planned but the hotel turns out to be run by an old lady who is about to lose her lease to the evil landlord. The stooges decide to help her fix up the place and start by beating up the landlord and stealing his watch. After their usual antics in renovating the place, the hotel is ready for the grand re-opening. The stooges put on a big show with a famous critic in attendance. Their corny act goes over poorly until Curly accidentally puts on a magicians coat and becomes a sensation and the place is a success.

Dustin P (ca) wrote: I had heard about this movie awhile ago, but took me a few years to finally see. I think I might have had expectations that were too high because of the positive reviews and the fact that the producers of Shaun Of The Dead were behind it. It's not a bad film by any means. It's shot well (by newcomer Joe Cornish) and the acting is fairly good especially considering most of the cast are teenagers. The story had a few problems for me. First of all, I think they should have made it more comedic. For the most part, it's a fairly serious and straightforward film. Considering the main story is about teens fighting alien monsters, I feel like that situation is more than ripe for comedy. All that aside, my absolute biggest complaint is that the teens are criminals and the film opens with them robbing a woman at knifepoint. So why on Earth would I root for these guys? Why do I care if any of them are killed by the aliens? The answer is that I didn't root for them or care about any deaths that happened. Maybe the writers think that fighting aliens was enough to redeem them of all their wrongdoings at the beginning of the film, but for me personally, that wasn't the case. All in all, I didn't hate this film, but I think there is a little bit of overhype that tends to come with it. If I had found this on my own without any fanfare, perhaps I would have liked it more. However, due to the problems I had with the story, I doubt I would have given it more than 3 stars anyway.

Neil S (ca) wrote: An amusing look at the lives of the wheelchair athletes who play Murderball (aka Quad Rugby, Wheelchair Rugby), it suffers from structural issues, like having some discussions go off on tangents that are never returned to, but is otherwise an informative, and well-executed documentary. The rivalry between Mark Zupan and Joe Soares creates a nice tension and gets you involved in the story, though it's possible that a non-chronological structure (based on the recovery of a disabled person to shape it) would have made the elements more contiguous

Sean S (au) wrote: It's a classic childhood film for me, but I can admit its shortcomings. The film distinctly bears the writing (and all-around mark) of John Hughes' '80s/early '90s childhood/adolescence-centred films. Walter Matthau is in one of his career-defining roles as old grump Mr. Wilson, and Mason Gamble makes his film debut with what is also his most notable role as menace Dennis Mitchell. It's a by-the-numbers kooky comedy in the vein of Home Alone (including Christopher Lloyd's turn as Switchblade Sam) with a strange brand of imminent danger (accentuated by its distinctive theme courtesy of Jerry Goldsmith) that turned some off it (including Roger Ebert). But the reasoning should be that the film had to have some sort of problem/climax resolved by its narrative, and the film does a decent job of integrating Sam. To me, there's a lot to enjoy here despite the inevitable comparisons to Culkin's antics in Home Alone (the first three of which were also penned by Hughes).

Joshua B (ru) wrote: Decent for a B movie. Special effects and acting were great in spots, but with a little more work could've achieved a better end product overall.

Johnson C (ag) wrote: Quite a simple action type movie, standard plot, standard action, and standard gun shots.

Blake B (gb) wrote: What to Expect When You're Expecting is quite enjoyable with a few laughs, despite its bloated, meandering, and predictable storyline. It is cute popcorn flick, but by no means a great film.
