Tracy H (it) wrote: This movie is actually better than the sum of it's parts. The trailer and the description don't do it justice. With a killer soundtrack and a colorful cast of characters it still reels me in over 20+ years later. I wish they would release it on dvd.
Rick H (us) wrote: I for one thought it was a great flick. Best of Costner in years. Well done all the way around.
Andrew S (kr) wrote: This movie should be categorized as a boring drama. There was no comedy in this movie.
Mloy X (fr) wrote: William Burke (Pegg): I had confidence in a fart once, and I shat all over myself. This was alright but the powers that be could have let Simon Pegg be a little more funny; he seemed a little bit stifled in this role and he (unfortunately) has no chemistry with Isla Fisher, as lovely as she was, I believed she miscast for the role. Andy Serkis was cute, it's just nice to see his actually face in a film instead of being cloaked in CG like usual. Tom Wilkinson was, as always, brilliant. Tim Curry is always good but underutilized in this film. Overall, the story was interesting but with leads like Pegg and Serkis I was half expecting it to be more hilarious, granted it was humorous in a dark, macabre sort of way. I was somewhat entertained but truthfully, it was a bit slow paced which made it a bit dull.
Corey B (ru) wrote: shot wise and progression it is weak, but the acting is what makes it special.
Simon D (us) wrote: Overall it's a fairly silly horror but, to begin with, I thought that it might be better as the acting wasn't bad, the soundtrack was interesting, and the direction was quirky. Also to it's credit is that the old horror cliche of the mutilated man who just refuses to die situation was not just confined to running around a dark house, tripping up and forgetting how to get back up again sort of thing. There was a bit more to it than others in this mould but still it's not a good film.
Alon L (nl) wrote: Livelier and less contrived than the disappointing Life is a miracle, Zavet still isn't up to the zany mordacity of earlier Kusturica films. The hearty dosis of mayhem and grotesquery seems to lose edge in its pairing with an ultimately bland love story.

Ashley T (es) wrote: An amature, gimmicky and painfully overwritten script with the campiest directing style and a whole mish mash of bad acting. Worst of all is the intrusive and overly dramatic score playing over almost every minute of the movie and the constant fading transitions. As a die hard Viggo fan, I can only take comfort in the fact that most mainstream audiences will never see this movie.
Craig M (gb) wrote: As good as I remembered...the science/ religion conversation here was both great science fiction and smart horror. Sure, there's some cheese, but this is the best kind of Carpenter cheese.
Jim P (au) wrote: Deneuve and Depardieu are masters of their craft, and stunningly well supported by everyone around them. But they are let down by the plot, and the lack of any chance to develop any chemistry between them.
Adam B (kr) wrote: I'm a Michael Caine fan and I was bored to tears, god knows what others must think! Slow and dull, Caine would make much worse later in his career (The Swarm etc), but none are this zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Stephen L (ag) wrote: Some dark turns along the way, fantastic photography and lighting techniques and some incredibly suspenseful moments make this film noir classic stand out from the crowd. I didn't follow the plot too well but that's probably my fault. A rare gem of movie that I'm surprised few people have heard of.

Margaret S (ru) wrote: Containing some of the most astonishing work of Busby Berkeley, this is not my favorite movie with "Gold Diggers" in the title or about "Gold Diggers" in general. The plot is miniscule at best and some of the acting more than a bit wooden. If you're a lover of all-things-Berkeley, this remains a "must-see" despite those faults.
