Deven T (nl) wrote: A stunning history, crime and drama film, successfully replicating and substantially improving the German 1997 DocuDrama Todespiel and an excellent popcorn thriller. Mogadischu is fast paced, tense, energetic, suspenseful and in HD Technicolor. The hijacked Landshut 737's incredible journey flight (cross-country odyssey) through Rome, Larnaca, Bahrain, Dubai, Aden and Mogadishu will surely shock and thrill the audience. One of the best films in German cinema.
Michael T (nl) wrote: Another great outing from the ever reliable Pang Bros. this time its a solo outing from Oxide. This is a clever take on the fine line between reality & fantasy for a schizophrenic. Its a horror movie but not about ghosts or demons of the usual kind. These are ghosts as memories & demons as emotions. Well filmed, typically stylish & the lead is perfect. With a wicked little twist at the end that you don't see coming.

Jay B (ca) wrote: This movie has no right being this funny. I went in thinking "Okay, I'll suffer through this." Next thing I know the end credits are rolling, and I am smiling...a lot. The camaraderie between the girls seems really genuine, and everyone seems to be having a great, silly time. Added bonus: spotting all the cameos (watch out for Elvis Costello as a bartender).

Harry W (au) wrote: I only watched Flashdance to see how a song could be stretched into an entire film concept.Director Adriane Lyne isn't at his finest here, but he cleverly uses the sex appeal of its dancers without ever being too up front with it, and he ensures that the passion of the dance is very well shot and edited which finds the fine line between cinematic and MTV which is relatively impressive.Plus the soundtrack is an original one featuring some appealing songs, namely the Academy Award winning "Flashdance... What a feeling" and the Academy Award nominated "Maniac" which is good at capturing the beat in the viewer's interest. But the real high point is Jennifer Beals performance. Despite not having the strongest material to work with, her natural beauty and charisma gives her the passion needed to get through the dance which she does with flying colours and kinetic energy. Flashdance isn't the finest film, but it shows the kind of talent Jennifer Beals has on offer as an actress.Sunny Johnson was also pretty good.Unfortunately, the key downfall is the premise and script. The plot is overly basic and attempts to find depth in a woman becoming a dancer in the most simplistic and cliche manner which is too predictable for its own good, and the script subjects the cast to ridiculous plot dynamics and cheap characters who have no tenacity on the drama whatsoever or anything interesting to say.The dance choreography is largely hit and miss. Save from the work of Jennifer Beals and Sunny Johnson, much of the dance is unappealing and visually strange, while the efforts of Jennifer Beals and Sunny Johnson stick out as very good. But the imbalance between good and bad is unsettling. And Flashdance just never really had the atmosphere of a dance film. The passion for dance wasn't felt most of the time, and so there was never really any heart to be found in the story.Lastly, the ending is lame. If the ambiguity is important, it could have been better clarified, but instead it just seems like at this point the budget ran out and the director went "F*ck.... Well lets leave it there"So Flashdance is good looking, good sounding and featuring a strong effort from Jennifer Beals, but Adriane Lyne doesn't use his best skills as a director and leaves Flashdance as a shallow effort with some good moments and a lot of boring ones.
