Do NOT take it serious. I laughed several times but its pretty dumb if you're looking for the next great horror classic, you won't get that here. This is just your typical "have fun and watch something" movie
(mx) wrote: It's very well made and compelling, especially if you are interested in Bobby Fischer. I can't give it a high general recommendation because it's pretty clear Fischer was insane, or at least wound up that way. So it's not easy to watch. Well done, though, and clearly on a limited budget, so kudos to the filmmakers.

TBH found it a little slow at first and had difficulty identifying with any of the characters (not helped by the familiarity of Eastenders and The Bill faces amongst the cast). However, once it did get into the ~groove(TM) I thoroughly enjoyed it.Some very well written characters with the two male leads managing to combine innocence, naivety and a street knowledge (particularly Ste) that looked, sounded and felt perfectly in tune with the time and location of their lives. It could be said that Jamie and Ste actually had a bit of an easy ride " pardon the pun " in the blooming relationship, particularly if you compare the film to the storyline of John Paul and Craig(TM)s coming out on Hollyoaks, but this didn(TM)t matter as I really found myself rooting for them to have a good life together. Some brilliant one liners, particularly between Sandra and Leah (Leah: Don't suppose you've got any jobs in your new pub? Sandra: No. But if I ever do turn it into a brothel I'll get back to you, ok?) emphasised the quality of the script and the relationships between the various characters, both major and minor. The final scene of the two boys dancing together while Sandra watched the crowd protectively was brilliant. No words, just awesome Mamma Cass music (excellent soundtrack all the way through BTW) had me reaching for the hanky to wipe away away a tear and left me, for once, really wanting to know what happened to all the characters after the film ended. To end, once thing that apparently splits the gay community has to be addressed " Team Ste all the way!

(jp) wrote: Gene Saks, the creator of The Odd Couple follows up with another great comedy, with great performances by Walter Matthau, Ingrid Bergman, and especially Goldie Hawn who won an Academy Award for her performance. And by the way if you are interested in watching the Adam Sandler Rip-off, Just Go With It, watch Cactus Flower instead and you will see that the idea for the movie isn't that bad, and you will have a much better time.Cactus Flower is the story about the dentist, Julian Winston (Walter Matthau) who has an affair with the young and naive, Toni Simmons (Goldie Hawn) who tried to commit suicide after Julian didn't show up for her date. From then. Julian promise her to divorce his wife and marry Toni. But the problem is that he's not married, that just a back story to avoid attachments. So Julian ask his ice cold secretary, Miss Dickinson (Ingrid Bergman) to pretend she's his wife. But the great amount of lies is expanding like a rolling snowball, and it's getting more and more complicated.Cactus Flower is a suprinsingly good comedy with a lot of withy and romantic and sexual stage humor as in the Odd Couple where the cemetry between the characters is the most thrilling part. The cemetry between Bergman and Matthau, Hawn and Lenz. I really enjoyed all the performances, as always Walter Matthau is the king of comedy playing the average middle age man. Goldie Hawn gives us a splendid, funny and cute supporting performance. But what surprises me the most is Ingrid Bergman in her first and only comedy performance, which is so good, because of her expressions, which is normally put into drama film, but works perfectly well is a comedy. She's funny, she's plays a character with dept, whom we get to know and even though it's not relevant, very good sexy looking considering her age. Thumbs up.

(it) wrote: It was very Cliche' and recycled many jokes. Noah Levenstein was not in the movie as much as the trailer said. "Stifler" did not go by his family values and was just mean.
