Jacob P (us) wrote: Awesome story\plot, Fair acting, and a good amount of blood. this award winning psychological slasher film easily succedds into being a very disturbing, yet enjoyable film. A classic.

James Z (br) wrote: uneven legal thriller spurs by short bursts of hasty fist-fighting, and squanders a talented cast with a muss of a script. the camera constantly jumps about even when unnecessary, and it's a labyrinth of self-satisfied but crummy dialogue and bland atmosphere.

This is an enjoyable thriller with some good thrills, and a good cast. It does drag a bit towards the end, and even the ending is a bit of a downer, but it's good up to then. In Los Angeles, in a building of a major Japanese conglomerate, escort Cheryl Lynn Austin (Tatjana Patitz) is found brutally murdered in a sexual attack. Police Detective Web Smith (Wesley Snipes) and former police captain John Connor (Sean Connery) are sent to investigate. Connor is an expert on Japanese affairs, and his expertise comes to good use in this case. But it's a complex one as it looks like Eddie Sakamura (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa), son of the chairman is identified by the security cameras as the killer, but he isn't. As Connor and Smith dig deeper, they find that Eddie has been used to cover the identity of the real killer, who was erased from the video. It's a good thriller, and Connery gives a good performance too, and he plays off well against Snipes, who holds his own. It does lose it's way towards the end, but it's a good, atmospheric thriller with appearances from Harvey Keitel and Steve Buscemi.
William W (br) wrote: This wasn't as good as Richard Donner's superb original, but it's a solid sequel. It lacks the unique sense of despair and menace of one's own child perhaps being the Antichrist, and the suspense is neither as taut nor as skillfully handled, but there are some great death scene set-pieces here, and it's not as bad as horror fans would let you think it is. I have a special place in my heart for the religious thriller, so perhaps I'm a tad more lenient than I should be in my grading, but I could very well say that the devil made me do it, or at the very least, his spawn. Jerry Goldsmith does another fine soundtrack, albeit not with the two Oscar nominations and one win this time around, while William Holden and Lee Grant do a credible job of replacing stars Gregory Peck and Lee Remick, whom Damien had no qualms dispensing with in the first film. The original is essential viewing for anyone, while the first two sequels are fine fare for any contemporary cinematic (by that, I mean of films since 1970) horror or religious thriller aficionado.
