Love on the Dole

Love on the Dole

Depressing and realistic family drama about the struggles of unemployment and poverty in 1930s Lancashire. The 20-year-old Kerr gives an emotionally charged performance as Hardcastle, one of the cotton workers trying to make life better. Interlaced with humour that brings a ray of sunshine to the pervasive bleakness, this remains a powerful social study of life between the wars, and was a rare problem picture to come out of Britain at the time.

During the depression in England, a young lady from Lancashire decides to be a rich bookmaker's mistress, just to help the rest of her family who are unemployed. . You can read more in Google, Youtube, Wiki

Patrick L (ru) wrote: Out of Time stars Denzel Washington as a small town police chief who is fooling around with another man's wife, then is drawn into the tragic story of that woman when she apparently is diagnosed with cancer and ends up taking some drug money (in holding) to pay for expensive treatments. The dying woman and her husband appear to die in an arson that destroys their home, the chief becomes implicated in their apparrent murder when a neighbour spots him at the house prior to their death and the arson. The chief's wife is one of the detectives assigned to the homicide and then there is a roller-coasterride of action and suspense until the chief confronts the husband and wife who didn't die but had set him up. 9/10

Justin W (kr) wrote: the stereotypical african american dude makes this movie fantastic. he's quite the good comedian. if it weren't for him, this would be a pretty boring film...however, since scenes with him in it are plentiful, it's quite the nice watch.

David S (it) wrote: A compelling corporate greed slow burner the Clooney offers a masterful performance. One explosion keeps you tuned in to find what is going on. It's not the most exciting or entertaining film but it kept me around all the way through it.

Richard R (kr) wrote: The acting is what really set this movie apart from others in this genre. Hard to play a role the same way Sean Penn did in this film.

Glenn R (jp) wrote: Disturbing. Also amazingly well done. Like everyone else I thought that Uwe Boll was a hack, hell that may still even be true, but watching the original Rampage changed my perception a little. The follow-up (Rampage: Capital Punishment) could have been a cheap and tacky sequel like so many we have seen before, but it isn't. If anything it ramps up every disturbing nuance of the first move. It's almost a horror movie, but it doesn't need gore to horrify you. You start wondering why you want Bill to win, knowing that he's a psychopathic monster. His execution of innocent people shown matter of fact, almost as if you share in his indifference to the carnage. The lead actor Brendan Fletcher, takes the character even further along that twisted but logical path. Many will hate this movie because it's just too raw and too real and I don't mean that by the depiction of gore. Ironically there is little gore in this move. The horror comes from something much worse.Against all odds, I consider the Rampage movies to be modern classics. The lead actor and the director have collaborated to make something totally new with the two Rampage movies. Something exceptional and pretty damn brave. We all have friends that rant and rave at various governments just as Bill Williams does. To think that someone could take it to this extreme and 'Go Postal' isn't really that much of a leap, and perhaps that more than anything else, is the most horrifying fact of all.
