Rob R (ru) wrote: The Conjuring (2013)A modern horror classic. It's not that frightening for experienced horror fans, but it's a structurally exceptional film thanks to great pacing and devoted direction from James Wan. Based on the true story of a haunted farmhouse in 1971 Rhode Island, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren document the haunting of the Perron family through their experience and trust within the Catholic Church. The Conjuring is unique because it revolves around real people, The Warren's, and the telling of their story and the story of this haunting. It's a slow-building thriller at first, with brilliant use of audio to conjure up scares, see what I did there? No, but seriously, Wan uses sound to create creepy scares throughout his films, and it's used so effectively in The Conjuring. The scares come often towards the second and third acts, mostly due to Wan's creative direction and strong acting. As one of the highest grossing horror films of all time, it could be compared to this generations, The Exorcist. James Wan has been an excellent contributor in bringing the horror genre back to life. Giovanni M (kr) wrote: When I first heard of Any Given Sunday I wondered "why was I not shown this? My father showed me every football movie!" however after watching it I realized why, this is an Oliver Stone film filled with drugs, swearing, and everything not suitable for eight=year-old me. Despite this, I actually really enjoyed the film. The acting is great (except for Cameron Diaz who is just meh), the football scenes is exhilarating, and the pacing keeps you entertained throughout the nearly three-hour run-time. The only problem I had with it is that it peaks in the first game when it comes to the football scenes. For some reason none of the other games were as enticing. That aside, this is great movie for football and Oliver Stone fans.
Garland H (ag) wrote: I think Mark Dacascos was a bad casting choice, the acting in the movie was poor, and the changes in the plot crippled it compared to the bad ass anime. Seriously, don't let this turd ruin Crying Freeman for you if you haven't seen the anime or read the manga.

Graceann M (it) wrote: Sylvia Sidney, Gary Cooper and Guy Kibbee give excellent performances in this drama set in the gritty world of beer racketeering. Although the film suffers a bit from the plagues of early talkies, and Gary Cooper is still getting used to being in front of a camera, it is a winner due to Rouben Mamoulian's skill as a director. There is always a risk, with mobster dramas, of falling into the "yeah, Mugsy!" trap, and a bit of that happens here, but it is a minor annoyance. The violence is alluded to but not shown, and the personal relationships are what drive the story. The climax is brilliantly staged, shot and acted. and, on a purely shallow level, I must say that Gary Cooper just might be the most gorgeous man of that era of film. When God was handing out good looks, Coop got in line a dozen times.
Tio B (fr) wrote: Extremely beautiful short film with a beautiful protagonist and a beautifully beautiful avant-garde approach to an admittedly melodramatic story. Movies haven't really come very far since the 1920s. In fact, they're worse. Much MUCH worse.
Henrysmovieguide C (nl) wrote: Not very good. This "action" movie is fairly boring and dumb. Halle Berry is much more of a Marvel actress. Not a good superhero movie.
Robyn L (au) wrote: Brilliant Masterpiece! A Must see film. Dakota Fanning is riveting and the story kept me on the edge of my seat. Emma Thompson scores high marks again with her intelligent screenplay and delightful performance as the great Lady Eastlake -a feminist ahead of her time. I cannot recommend it highly enough. This film is a timeless treasure that surpasses most period films because it holds truths that resonates today . The final scene is epic in its depth and beauty - not since Gone with the Wind!

The gang/mafia subject has been shown many times but this is the first one I know of that depicts the life of Asian Americans, its a fresh perspective from this angle alone. The movie centers around two unwilling recruits and give strong attention to their perspectives before and after joining the gang. I was also surprised multiple times by the plot twists and I never had any idea what was going to happen next. Overall, I found it to be very enjoyable. Maybe a lot of the audience just dont have any interest in seeing a movie about Asian gangs with no white male character saving the day.
