(au) wrote: My favorite part of this movie were the celebrity quips that sandwiched this otherwise dull documentary about the most important subject of all: reason. I am not a fan of the rigidity of these famous scientists. I would much rather they had the countenance of MLK or Gandhi or even Al Gore, because then I feel more people would be willing to listen to them. I don't even like them, and I'm probably more atheist than they are. Important subject nonetheless, and some very profound ideas presented.

(ag) wrote: Well, it's taken seven years, but I've finally gotten to a place where Jean-Luc Godard's movies don't actively piss me off anymore. This one didn't at least. Though to call it a movie is perhaps a stretch. As Peter Wollen notes in a famous article, Godard doesn't make cinema, but counter-cinema, and you have to treat it as such if you hope to keep your sanity while watching it. Just forget about narrative and character and continuity and everything you're used to, and instead just sit back and let Godard whisper metaphysics and sociology at you for an hour and a half. Don't fight it. Just go with it. You learn to laugh eventually.
