Beth P (ru) wrote: Maybe i'm lucky as I haven't read the memoir so i viewed it solely on a film basis and i am admittedly a little bit biased as Bening is possibly one of my favorite actresses but i found the film a wonderful cinematic event, with similarities to 'American Beauty' and 'We need to talk about Kevin'.

Tim M (kr) wrote: Billy Bob Thornton's 'Sling Blade', an extended version of his short film, put Thornton on the map as an artist. Billy Bob portrays the mentally challenged Karl Childers who befriends a little boy played by Lucas Black. The chemistry the two have from their first scene to their last is unmistakeable. Thornton, who created this role years earlier perfected it for the film. Keep your eyes peeled for Robert Duvall who plays Thornton's father in one especially riveting scene. Final Score: 8.8.

Robert C (ru) wrote: Did you know that Clint Eastwood was in a big-budget musical about the California gold rush? Neither did I until I came across this movie on Netflix. It's gorgeously shot, with each scene as beautiful as a painting, but the story goes nowhere and it's really grating seeing these cowboy types breaking into song.

Robert B (fr) wrote: I agree with the majority of reviews on this one; while there were many very heartfelt and 'big' moments in the film highlighting the importance of the existence of art and its effect on humanity, it did feel very much like the story was lethargic and only serving those moments which left it pretty want at times for more to happen. apparently there is a good amount of editorial changes to the story from the real-life accounts of the 'save the art' mission for this team in WWII, but i do think this story is INSANELY interesting and even if this movie piques people's interests to do more research, I'd say that's still something important. i actually didn't even know the whole 'Hitler steals all the arts' thing happened and now I know the military was a butthole about recovering it all but thank god it did get saved (most of it at least). this'll be a wait for it on Netflix, but still worth watching when you can.
Tia M (ca) wrote: Of course this movie had no mind blowing, unique, or even vaguely interesting plot. This is not the kind of movie you watch for the plot. This is a generic buddy comedy with lots of shock humour. It's the kind of movie you watch with some mates while probably getting drunk. That's all. If you're watching this expecting to be blown away by the performances of the cast and by the talent of the writing staff, then you are doing it wrong. This movie doesn't try to be deep or meaningful or remotely thought provoking, so don't sit down to watch it expecting something great. It's funny, it's definitely funny, but that's all it's supposed to be. For what it is and for what it tried to be, Dirty Grandpa was a good movie. I do recommend it.
