Bill Hader and Ellie Kemper's characters are scene stealers with their occasional reaction to the 'love story'. Fun celebrity cameos. The movie is so cheesy that it produces genuine laughs in many parts. The conclusion is fun and very unpredictable. The Not-so-Good:Calling this 'a movie' would be an overstatement, because this feels more like a silly TV or Youtube parody sitcom filled with skits and gags instead. Joel and Molly are either dumb characters, or completely delusional, because their story is so surreal that sometimes it feels too cliche and corny instead. Almost every characters are comic reliefs version of their actors with over the top carricature characterizations, that it feels like they are just goofing off for fun and not taking their role seriously. While the movie playfully satirizes or parodies various rom-coms, in the end it relies heavily on prior knowledge of said movies to be able to make it work, because many times it feels rather difficult to figure out which spoofed scenes are meant to come from. Lots and lots of "Huh?" moments due to the scenes not making any sense and just go beyond ridiculous.

If you DO though, and you can handle off-color humor, you will love it - I have sore muscles from laughing so hard at this movie! If however, you're one of my friends who considers Tommyboy and Step Brothers beneath you, just play like you didn't see this review and continue in your naivet of the depths to which my sense of humor will stoop for satisfaction. The chemistry between Leguizamo (Frank) and Castro (Justin) is the true heartbeat of this film, where the viewer's empathy is well divided. Castro delivers an impeccable performance as the naive, yet street-wise boy navigating alongside his step-father (Leguizamo) through a very adult world in a quest to escape the streets. The remarkable determination of this unlikely pair is both wrenching and heart-warming as, together, the two discover what matters most at the end of the day. Leguizamo delivers a typically solid performance, and the doe-eyed Castro steals more than a few scenes. This is a well constructed film that doesn't pretend to be more than it is. I would highly recommend it.

A little over 15 years had passed since the events depicted in the film actually happened. Some of the principals involved were still alive and well? and none too happy with MGM's version of the story. During the resultant libel suit - the court ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, who were able to secure (at the time) a very hefty settlement from MGM. Sure, Hollywood took some artistic liberties in depicting the drama which occurred during the final years of the Romanov dynasty (just prior to the 1917 Russian Revolution). Henry Gordon Doctor Remezov (fictional character)??.Edward Arnold In reality, the story of Grigory Rasputin is so bizarre that the film really pales in comparison. This really is an example of the truth being stranger than fiction. I suppose it's really not too hard to imagine how a charismatic figure like Rasputin could gain the confidence of an Empress. Not when it comes to saving the life of her young son, Alexei - The Czarevitch, heir to the Russian throne - who becomes gravely ill due to complications relating to hemophilia. The Czarina Alexandra, a devout Orthodox - turns to the holy man Rasputin for help when treatment by Russian doctors fail. "I'm a simple man who believes God answers prayer", Rasputin tells Alexandra. "You trust doctors?don't you believe God can do more than they can?" Miraculously, Rasputin is able to "cure" young Alexei?and so begins Rasputin rise as a figure in Russian History. He uses the influence gained by being associated with the Romanovs to achieve social and political power. Despite the title - the drama seems to center not on the relationship between Rasputin and the Empress Alexandra, but rather more towards the dynamics between Rasputin and the Prince Chegodieff, who does not trust Rasputin at all. "There is something clammy about him", Chegodieff admits to his fiance, Natasha. "I can't explain it. I have the same feeling brushing against something on a dark night." This is the only film in which all three Barrymore siblings appear in the same film?but RASPUTIN AND THE EMPRESS really belongs to Lionel, who has the best lines. "In less than a year?I WILL BE RUSSIA." The film itself is beautiful to look at due to the lavish sets and costumes. Director Richard Boleslawski achieved a more realistic atmosphere here rather than the lyrical quality imparted by director Josef Von Sternberg for his SCARLET EMPRESS (which looked at the reign of Catherine the Great). Boleslawski inserts stock footage during various scenes. The film seems rather long for a 121 minute film. The First World War is just touched upon. So too the Russian Revolution and the dramatic end of the reign of The Romanovs. As historical drama, RASPUTIN AND THE EMPRESS may leave you wanting for more. Details, that is. 7

Regi H (au) wrote: I literally lost count if this is the 4th Ice Age or 5th. This is the worst movie by far, its filled with cliche after cliche. Once again, the historical inaccuracies are stupid, I'd give them a pass normally because its a children's film but just so stupid I refuse to let it slide. Like I've said before the old cast is getting stale, so we got a bunch of new characters! Nicki Minaj, Drake, Jennifer Lopez, a mis casted Peter Dinklage, ok I'm starting to see a pattern here. This cast is just straight up trash! Its so forgettable and it sets up the franchise to fail with there next big screen outing Ice Age: Collision Course!
