Mardock Scramble: The First Compression
Rune Ballot is a down-and-out teen prostitute in Mardock City. One day, she's picked up by an ambitious casino manager named Shell who gives her everything she could want. Renewed by a false innocence, a false past, and now the false life Shell has given her, Ballot feels grateful. However, she can't help but be curious about why he's done so much for her, so she does some research about his past on a computer. This turns out to be a mistake which will change her life greatly. When Shell finds out what she's done, he attempts to burn her to death by blowing up her car.

These young characters are extraordinarily realistic and their unbridled, raucous energy is contagious. As a coming-of-age story, it's sweet, funny, unpredictable, thematically complex and much lighter than the director's dark and devastating film Lilya 4-Ever (2002). This one left a smile on my face and the spirit of punk rock buzzing in my brain.

Everyone in the film seems half dead, sleepwalking through the film. Grieving with death is a concept that only makes sense if it is dealt with accurately. Now, I know that Alps is a surrealist piece, but it just didn't resonate with me emotionally. It didn't hit me where it clearly wanted to.

Filled with some great scenes there are some uneven/unbalanced ones. Some & the theories & scenes in this film are a little far fetched but overall it is very entertaining.

(mx) wrote: Redirected is a mediocre attempt for an ultra cool and absurd movie which has its good moments, but fails to impress due to the fact that it is too similar to a bunch of other similar deliveries. Raw, chaotic and with a strange mixture of Baltic meets British culture, this flick could be appreciated by the genre lovers while others might find it quite offending.Four lads rob the wrong local London mobster (Vinnie Jones) and while escaping to Malaysia things get wrong when a volcano erupts in Europe and flights get redirected and they find themselves stranded in Lithuania. Full with money to spend they go on full-throttle into the night-life not realizing that Vinnie Jones is coming after them. When the morning comes not only the guys realize that things have gone awfully wrong, but also the audience starts asking itself what is going on with Emilis Velyvis's delivery. The more one watches, the more absurd the story becomes. There are certainly moments in which you would ask yourself: "is it possible the story to get even more awkward?" and just when you ask yourself this, the story indeed goes even wilder. This awkwardness is quite entertaining in the beginning, but as the movie goes on the sub-stories become too detached from each other and somehow you would get tired from the never-ending moments of idiotic events. In the end, Redirected gets so overloaded with its own absurdity that it stops being fun, but offending. Furthermore, if you are coming from Lithuania, you might even get repulsed by the way Lithuanian country-side and Lithuanian people are depicted. As a whole, Redirected is a movie that aims to please a certain sub-group of viewers and it does so. If you, however, are not a fan of Guy Ritchie, Irvine Welsh , etc. it would better if you skip this movie. Nevertheless, even the fans of the genre would quickly forget Redirected simply because it provides laughs but nothing else to remember.
