Martyrs of Love
This three-part ballad, which often uses music to stand in for dialogue, remains the most perfect embodiment of Nemec’s vision of a film world independent of reality. Mounting a defense of timid, inhibited, clumsy, and unsuccessful individuals, the three protagonists are a complete antithesis of the industrious heroes of socialist aesthetics. Martyrs of Love cemented Nemec’s reputation as the kind of unrestrained nonconformist the Communist establishment considered the most dangerous to their ideology.

(jp) wrote: This is so far one of the best comedy movies I've ever seen. This is a very well done job full of joy, happiness, innocence and overall freshness. This is the movie that can entertain any person. It's not an unusual story that can happen anytime and that is what it gives this film a very natural feel of confortableness and harmonity. Thumbs up for it!
(de) wrote: what can I say? Insipired by real life persons, depicting french dramatic life and emotions. but...... only the russian goons made me laugh and nothing made me cry. I was boored. kept watching the time counter on dvd-player. I guess one could borrow from a fellow flixter person: "a film about passion for movies, family, beauty, talent - and life. que sera sera plays during the end credits. oui oui."
(au) wrote: Many will think that this movie is just another comedy movie with homo theme but no - it is a heartwarming movie that depicts some harsh realities of barrio living in Manila slums. It has a comic start but with tragedy and ultimate drama towards the end which lead to a moral lesson about family, life, integrity and what "pagdadalaga" is really all about.

(au) wrote: 7.6/10Very touching movie with excellent performances by its adult cast, and most impressively by its younger cast. Th story was also very good and it's characters extremely human, which made it very emotional in some critical moments. Overall, very good movie about letting go and the American Dream. ~February 13, 2015~

(es) wrote: A ideia de usar o corpo como suporte para a criao de obras literrias e sua apresentao estranhamente sensual. A narrao por imagens, por vezes contando e mostrando histrias dentro das histrias, muito rica.
(de) wrote: Spectacular is anything but it's title. The songs aren't anything new, the are "x" and the acting is...well, is not acting the thing the actors do in this "movie".
(nl) wrote: Woody Allen and Diane Keaton go on a silly romp through 19th century Russia during the Napoleonic Wars while pondering deep and profound questions on life and the existence of god. Think Tolstoy's War and Peace with a lot of corny jokes.
(gb) wrote: Other than from the R.E.M. song, I'd never heard of Lenny Bruce. Now in the space of two hours I know exactly who he was and why he was so famous. This is a nicely made biopic about an interesting life. Hoffo is splendid, as you would expect.
(ag) wrote: BETTER THAN AVERAGE WESTERN, VERY WELL PRODUCED. AS A BIOGRAPHY IT IS PURE HOLLYWOOD STORYTELLING, LITTLE TRUTH AND MUCH EMBELLISHMENT. BUT PUTTING THAT ASIDE, IT WAS INTERESTING WITH SOME GOOD ACTIONS SCENES AND LOCATION SCENERY.
