Steve K (it) wrote: What a HUGE disappointment! The premise was great, almost good enough to write itself, but unfortunately, the wrong writer had the idea. The "connection" between the "nine strangers" was really tenuous and convoluted, and the ending was so bad it was kind of funny.

Jerusha A (it) wrote: This gets 0 stars from me. Horrible! So bad that it looks like someone filmed it from their garage. It looks like this was made recently too! Bradley, why???

Martin D (ru) wrote: This Americanized remake of the French classic The Return of Martin Guerre (1982) transports the story's setting from the 16th century Gallic countryside to 19th century Tennessee at the conclusion of the U.S. Civil War. Richard Gere stars as Jack Sommersby, a wealthy landowner who returns to his small cotton farming town of Vine Hill three years after the Civil War's end. The defeated Confederate soldier is ready to resume his past life with his young wife Laurel (Jodie Foster). Thinking her husband long dead, however, Laurel has become engaged to Orin Meecham (Bill Pullman), an arrangement she quickly calls off, enraging and embittering Orin. Soon it becomes evident that his experiences have changed Jack thoroughly. A callous and cruel man widely feared before the war, he is now charming and sensitive, offering financial opportunities to an ex-slave and caring for Laurel and his young son. Jack even persuades the town's citizenry that he can rescue their fortunes by pooling resources and switching Vine Hill's chief crop from cotton to tobacco. Jack's scheme works, but Orin becomes increasingly convinced that Jack is in fact an impostor masquerading as the wealthy Sommersby, a suspicion that the smitten and quickly pregnant Laurel secretly shares. When Jack is arrested and charged with a murder he drunkenly committed years before, the court trial leads to some startling revelations about the past.

Troy F (kr) wrote: Furious is one hell of a fucking oddity of a film. Not many films, if ever, have made me feel the way Furious made me feel: confused and leaving me laughing and crying like a mental patient... most of the laughter was from me going mad from confusion. I dare you to explain the plot of this film, you will scratch your head trying to figure it out. Unexplained events, almost devoid of dialogue when there should be, random characters, an odd obsession with chickens, a man turning into a talking pig upon death repetition of shots and the editing just going out of whack, a random cutaway to a Devo like rock band!? WHAT THE HELL WAS GOING ON!? The most confusing, head inducing question that the film will leave with is whether the film was supposed to be serious or intentionally funny. My only theory is that this film was meant to be serious and that partway through shooting, everyone just gave up and started dicking around,a nd when it got to editing, the editor didn't give a shit and fucked around by repeating shots and creating awkward silly moments out of everything. Your guess at what happened is as good as mine. I don't think I can possibly rate Furious. It's both awful and such an intriguing oddity that it needs to be seen. Watch at your own risk though, you will be left scratching your head till your head bleeds and your brain deteriorates.

Anji L (ru) wrote: Very cute! Amazing that there's really nothing new under the sun- except better women's rights ;)

Steve S (kr) wrote: *** (out of four) Good old fashioned melodrama with a wonderful Barabra Stanwyck at her most likeable. Though the plot offers few surprises and is quite contrived at times, Ms Stanwyck is worth the watching. Stanwyck plays a vetran Vaudville stage performer who returns home to her family after having abandoned them ten years earlier. Her appearance opens old wounds and excites old flames.

Art M (ru) wrote: Mann's use of N.Y. locations adds great dimension to this noir thriller as Granger has to deal with the consequences of a bonehead decision on his part.

Lisa R (es) wrote: Noel Coward + David Lean + Margaret Rutherford = Lots of fun

Des S (fr) wrote: I was looking forward to watching this, but was pretty disappointed with the storyline. I didn't find anything romantic about it and the relationship between Sally and George didn't seem possible in real life.
