Since it's also Takashi Miike it's still Miike directing a soap opera, but it's with mixed results. I grew tired of the usual long 5 minute without-cutaway takes (great in Gozu, but not here) and the resolution of the whole story felt just weird, and not in a good way. There's still considerable craft here, and it stands above most other thrillers of its ilk, it's just a loopy and melodramatic script that undoes it.

Moronically mis-marketed by the Weinsteins, this is not about Ice Cube and gangster culture per se or more simplistic Hollywood "messsage" films about race. Ignore "Crash" and the moralistic simpletons who fail to address institutional and cultural racism. Instead, check out this and Burnett's "Killer of Sheep".

(br) wrote: On the surface this is a good murder mystery. What this movie is really about is racism and the changing social values of the times. Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger give two of the best performances in their carriers. When Sidney Poitier slaps a Southern White man in the face in this film in 1967, it caused quite a stir in some parts of the country. A glimpse at what racial progress was up against in the south in the late 60's.

It is about an undercover FBI agent falls in love with a recently widowed mafia wife seeking to start her life over after her husband's murder and who is also pursued by a libidinous mafia kingpin seeking to claim her for himself. Michelle Pfeiffer and Alec Baldwin give excellent performances. The script is well written. Jonathan Demme did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the comedy and romance. Married to the Mob is a must see.

When we are used to local news to be thrown into the worldly news that makes us out of our league. When some news we care to comment, but to another news outlet. Other news we here, we don't care too much to comment. When some news is part of our history, that we care not to ignore.
