EXCELENTE

Jesse O (gb) wrote: The coolest thing about this film is the old-school poster, bringing up posters from old, 70s exploitation films. I mean that pretty much tells you all you need to know about the film. It's not what I would call a particularly good mix of horror and kidnapping caper genres. I suppose that keeps the film from being just a generic horror film but, instead, it's a generic kidnapping caper AND a generic horror film. Not to mention the fact that these two stories simply take forever to converge and it's simply too late by that point to make this any interesting. The script is uninspired and underdeveloped. The acting isn't really much better. I like AJ Bowen, but he doesn't really do much of anything here. Not like the rest of the cast really made an effort. Either they weren't motivated, they were poorly directed or the worst cuts were chose in the editing process. It could very well be a mix of all three, but the acting is pretty bad all things considered. The horror aspects themselves are pretty much all the generic slasher cliches you've come to know and loathe. I mean there's some gore, but it looks bad and it isn't particularly effective. It just feels like it's the section where people die horribly, not cause it felt like it was a logical step in the story. If we can call what this film did an actual story. It is what it is, but this just isn't a very good movie. It pretty much fails on every level imaginable. It's not like it fails so horrifically that this ends up being a terrible movie, but it does fail at a lot of the things that it sets out to do. The movie is 80 minutes long but it feels considerably longer than that due to how the film is paced. I'm trying to think of anything the film did right. Some of the gore looks ok, but it's not as ridiculously violent, like The Evil Dead remake was, in order to make it any good. I just don't have much else to say about this movie honestly. It's a bad horror movie in genre that's pretty much littered with them. It won't stand out due to its badness, it's not an entertaining kind of bad. It'll be an obscure horror film that, might, in the future get a cult following. Because almost every movie now has a cult following. Either way, this movie is bad and I wouldn't recommend it. You can do much better.

Cory B (de) wrote: I like to keep my the lore and the faces of my music far away. I could probably name the lead singers of three or four bands; I like music, I just don't 'get into it.' Here, we get an incredibly expansive look into TMBG, but I beg that's there wasn't much to mine in the first place. They exist on the fringe of music, churning out great, albeit weird, music, and they've been doing it since 1982. There's a lot of filler, and people like Michael McKean and Andy Richter stop by to recite lyrics; totally teleprompted. Also, the host of This American Life, Ira Glass, probably just graduated to the spot of my least favorite person ever; awfully irritating, full of himself, and forcing the gay. All in all, I would have rather just listen to some of their music for 100 minutes; nothing I really needed or wanted to find out.

Christopher P (mx) wrote: One of the best films of the 2000's with terrific direction, intricate editing, and brilliant performances. The film beautifully showcases how with everything that is lost so much more is gained.

Anthony R (de) wrote: Sort of a trainwreck of a film, weirdly cast and full of directing and editing hours. That said, it has the feel of an old Hollywood madcap rom-com and actually made me laugh out loud at least a half-dozen times.

Kim M (au) wrote: Loved these three actresses together in this film but not sure if the theme has now been over worked (however, the reference to Thelma & Louise was priceless) but bearing in mind that it is from 1995 and I'm just seeing it now. Anita Gillette was wonderful in the role of Robin's mother and there were a couple of scenes from this movie that, despite the overall melancholy, had me laughing out loud.

Conrad S (au) wrote: An average movie, and one often forgotten in the DC filmography. Directed by Wes Craven, and written by the one of the writers of the comic. Seeing ho this is one of the most beloved comics of all times, I didn't think there would be any chance of making a pleasing film. However, while it's story and characters may be bland, and I like everyone else is tired of Damsels In Distress, the film even says so itself and one point. To make up for all this the makeup is wonderful, and the character of the swamp thing is easy to get invested in. Combine that with choreography and editing suited to action far more than superman, a descent popcorn flick. A good introduction to the cult superhero movie.

Peter A (kr) wrote: A Jimmy Stewart and Frank Capra classic; apropos to the current political climate. I guess we all need a shot of an honest man taking a stand against corruption - like Captain America without the powers - minus the partisan bias. But call me cynical, I squirmed at the sappy overt patriotism, including the big media battle between Jeff Smith's small newsletter (aka paper blog) and the corrupt Jim Taylor's newspaper machine. Still, a must-watch for all movie lovers.
