MIDNIGHT SON is the story of Jacob, a young man confined to a life of isolation, due to a rare skin disorder that prevents him from being exposed to sunlight. His world opens up when he meets Mary, a local bartender, and falls in love. Tragically, Jacob’s actions become increasingly bizarre as he struggles to cope with the effects of his worsening condition. Forced by the disease to drink human blood for sustenance, he must control his increasingly violent tendencies as local law enforcement narrow their focus on him as a suspect in a series of grisly murders.

(au) wrote: Another disappointing "found footage" Bigfoot movie. Like Willow Creek, you don't actually see any creatures in this film either. Very low budget, below average acting, and rather predictable. I hope Eduardo Sanchez's upcoming "Exists" turns out to be better than these last 2 Bigfoot films I've seen.

That however would be a cynical, shallow and ultimately unjustified view to take. It's fair to say that this film won't be winning any prizes for originality of plot or characterisation. Still, at the end of the day, the acting was very convincing, and the story was enjoyable to watch from start to finish. This is not going to be anyone's favourite movie, but if you approach it with a grin on your face, you'll find that by the time the credits roll, your grin will have grown to a smile!...

It does give enough story background to understand what is going on, but when some characters meet their fate, it did not effect me because I did not know who they were or how they fit into the story line. Average effects, ho-hum story about immortality, and probably one of the hokiest endings I've seen. I just shook my head and wondered why this was given to me to watch.

(ru) wrote: The pacing is dreadfully slow in that I had to watch the movie in intervals (and I managed to sit through Gus Van Sant's boring movies of late without stopping, except Milk of course). BUT, towards the end, I realized that was the intention, to emphasize the dull, meaningless, and superficial existence of our character Carol, played by Julianne Moore. Although I prefer American Psycho's more brutal take on the upper-class yuppie lifestyle (note to self: re-rate American Psycho), Todd Haynes' [Safe] is equally as cynical. Take Carol's meek, mousy voice and her attempts to open up... *shudders* I've never felt more uncomfortable about a person's screen presence, or lack thereof (since that is the intention). It's so uncomfortable its disheartening, but at the same time you gotta laugh. Seriously, there are some funny parts here, and Moore's performance alone is gold. Haha, I gotta watch this movie again.Oh, and I'm not saying this is strictly a laugh out loud satire, it's still a tad disheartening to watch with its cynical commentary. :p
