(jp) wrote: John Sayles Honeydripper is rather uneven, but the music is unbelievable good, as is the first-rate cast. Cheers for a movie that features an all-black cast that isn't made by Tyler Perry.
(it) wrote: Not bad, but slightly disappointing. I wouldn't have minded if it was 3 or 4 hours long. Hardly does the book any justice, in my opinion. Kristen Stewart was quite good, though. (:

(jp) wrote: Reading some of the critic reviews here, I get pretty cheesed off. Rebellion and jazz go hand in hand. The subculture of swing in Nazi Germany is no mere footnote. My hero, Django Reinhardt, survived in Nazi-occupied France by his virtuosity and popularity alone. As a German American, I am heartened by the fact that even the twisted and conformist jerks who occupied France knew brilliance when they saw it. Want two cultures who cannot be further apart, you have jazz and Nazis. One focused on improvization and the individual, the other on conformithy and the state. This film explores that dichotomy and contains some fine performances. Good lawd. 39 percent on the Tomatometer? Get real, people!
(jp) wrote: This movie really surprised me, and in a good way. The first hour and a half of the film is spent developing the (many) characters and their relationships, instead of jumping straight into the action without any precedence or introduction. While I didn't care about what happened to several of the people, it was nice to see a movie--regardless of when it was released--that can give a large number of characters the time and attention they deserve for the audience to at least appreciate how they impact the story. Afterwards, the movie becomes the mystery, psychological-drama to which it was marketed. The twist ending may seem out-of-the-blue at first, but repeated viewings reveal how Ustinov's character came to the conclusion he did. Death on the Nile is not for everyone, but is a well-produced and well-told story to those with some degree of patience and a mild tolerance for over-acting.

Tempo hari kebetulan baru baca artikel rekomendasinya di sebuah website, akhirnya nyobain nonton...dan ternyata memang worth to watch till the end! Lupakan Annabelle, dan abaikan ratingnya yang rendah di situs movie review karena film ini masih worth to watch, artistik dan punya better plot with a little twist dibandingkan kebanyakan film horor.

(nl) wrote: You know, not a great film, but it has its moments in the hockey scene. The love story in this film was there only because a movie apparently needs to have a love story. It didn't exactly further the plot a great deal. I thought Scott did a good job, in that he wasn't playing his usual quick-witted, snappy character. I thought there were a ton of nice Canadian-isms in the film that made it enjoyable, as I watched it with several Americans who were unfamiliar with my homeland; it was nice to share. Overall, I enjoyed this film.
