(fr) wrote: Charles Bronson (the actor not the category A UK prisoner) is back as probably his most famous character Paul Kearsey last seen in the first Death Wish film some 6 or 7 years earlier. Kearsey you may remember from his first film murdered 9 in a vigilante killing streak in New York. For this film the setting is Los Angeles. The film begins with Kearsey again suffering personal loss as his housekeeper is raped, daughter abducted, raped and tragically killed in her bid for freedom from her captors (some young LA scum). The turn of events are enough to turn Kearsey vigilante again. The film has the feel of an episode of 1980s TV show The A-Team with the LA location shoot. The LA police department call for advice of their counterparts in New York. The NYPD if you remember let Kearsey go and don't want that fact to be public knowledge. Both the main star Bronson and the director Michael Winner are now no longer with us. Look out for a young Laurence Fishburne as one of the muggers Cutter. The violence although quite shocking at the time of the film's release is now quite tame. We do live in a computer game Grand Theft Auto era.The film paved the way for more and ever cheaper sequels in the franchise during the eighties.

Jack Heller must've figured if not seeing the shark worked for Spielberg, it'll work for me. Much of this film is cliche'd pieces of other works but there is a texture that keeps fooling you into thinking something cool is about to happen.... except it doesn't. It turns from a moody suspenseful yarn into a creature feature with less than impressive creature design but don't worry, there's a twilight zone twist at the end that's supposed to tip in the net. If only the film was worth the ending credits design.
