Generoso F (ag) wrote: As Spaulding Gray became famous for his almost eerie ability to recall the most minute details of his own life, it only makes sense given the amount of footage on him to construct a chronological narrative of his life using his own words. Steven Soderbergh continues his impressive run of sharp indies behind his giant Hollywood films with this brilliantly edited bio doc on author, actor performance artist, Spaulding Gray. What is truly amazing is that none of the footage from this doc, all first person narrative, was created for this film. Soderbergh quelled all of it from past interviews, performance films and videos of Spaulding in a clear timeline that is at moments, moving and comedic as the world Spauding painted for you during his life.

I understand, it does not want to be very deep, it is just a romantic comedy. The romantic part is really silly, and, just from the first appearance of Carrie, it is immediately understood the happy ending. About the comedy ... well, a comedy should be fun, should make me lough. Not at all. I smiled - not laughed - and very lightly, exactly twice. Overall, the movie is boring, really boring: Lost in Translation is still unsurpassed, but this is a good competitor.Hugh Grant is not only probably the worst actor ever, he is so unpleasant and disagreeable that, every time his face appears on the screen, I feel I wish to slap.

Eric H (kr) wrote: Its a true feelgood comedy, well written, well acted and very likable, in other words ,far superior to cynical, race to out-gross , slew of humorous films we are subjected to now.

Directed by the man behind the original Robocop, Total Recall, and Starship Troopers no less Paul Verhoven. our story follows Nomi (portrayed with some "special skill" by Elizabeth Berkeley in her first and last major film role after Saved by the Bell shut its school doors forever. Nomi fresh into Vegas in hopes of starting a new life while constantly getting exploited, undermined, and lied to on her way to the top of the burlesque entertainment ladder. With co-performances from Kyle McLaughlin, Gina Gershon, and Robert Davi to shortlist everyone. Berkeley chews up the scenery do damn much its next to impossible to take her seriously, especially her "dancing" skills and her sex scene in a pool where she convulses and flops around like an epileptic fish. Upon release Showgirls such poor reviews that Paul Verhoven issued an apology for it being ( this being funny since he declared before release that this movie was destined to be the next Citizen Kane). On the other hand though Showgirls has developed a major cult following selling so many copies its in the top 20 highest video sales even to this day. I would suggest everyone view this film and see what resulted from this super guilty pleasure.
