A moving and intimate film that follows Monique "Money" Matters (Terri Abney) caught at the brink of adolescence. Her relationship with her mother Pamela Matters (Aunjanue Ellis- RAY, MEN OF HONER), is far from stable and depicts the struggle between a young mother and daughter who both come of age...together. Sharp and candid dialogue blur the roles of parent and child, revealing a family secret magnified by pain and years of regret. Money's daily routine; a three-bus commute to the Catholic school she attends, far from her dilapidated neighborhood, to another world where she feels just as uncomfortable. When she befriends a neighborhood girl who seems to understand her, their friendship develops in ways that push boundaries.

But the amount of expressionism in the story and set left me in awe; I love the use of close ups and long shots, they made the film extra eerie. Not really my kind of film, but I do appreciate the artistry.

Calledinto work on his day off he spends his time talking to the slackervideo store clerk, Randal, and his girlfriend, Veronica, daydreamingabout his ex-girlfriend, Caitlin, playing roller-hockey and generallytrying to be responsible while all those around him are not. Thenthere's the local drug-dealers, Jay and Silent Bob...Writer-director Kevin Smith's first movie...and what a debut it is.Hilariously funny at times with some very clever dialogue, skits andturns-of-events. A wry look at everyday life. Some pretty cool randomscenes too (generally involving Jay and Silent Bob).Good performances from all involved, none of whom were name-actors atthe time (and none of them have really made it big since, which issurprising).Only downside is that there is a fair sprinkling of juvenile humour andthis cheapens the movie. It is also a bit disappointing when Smith hasto resort to cheap/shock-value laughs when the rest of the humour is sointelligent.

Derek F (it) wrote: With both humor and lethality, Brosnan, suave and handsome, gives a balanced performance in an overall modern post Cold War film. A number of the scenes in the first half of the movie (fast car, casino, etc.) feel obligatory. It's a Bond formula film which picks up during the 2nd half but it's a very well done one. The cast is very strong with characters like Natalya, Boris, Xenia, Alec, Judi Dench's M and others. Well-written dialogue, a dark unique electronic soundtrack, an epic evil lair and a strong climax make this one worth watching.
