(mx) wrote: Let me start by saying Dustin Hoffman and Susan George give their allin Sam Peckinpah's highly controversial and genre-blending classic,Straw Dogs. And Yes, I use the word "classic" in its full context. Thismovie is a classic; a triumphant voyage into the psyche and limits ofmanhood; and what entails manhood and its harsh decisions. Intense, dramatic and certainly shocking, Straw Dogs is a film of high merit, inmy opinion, because of one thing: relate ability. Dustin isn't somesuperman punching intergalactic overlords through space rocks to earnthe love and respect of his girl. No. He's just the ordinary guy. He'snon-confrontational, quiet and pacifistic by the beginning; hoping justto give his wife the best in their new secluded home. The last 20minutes, however, his true nature is tested through unconventional andtruculent situations which endanger his honor; his wife and their"home". The journey to this point is slow, but rewarding as well. Theslow build-up not only adds realism and dynamic emotion into the plot;it adds to the shocking and extraordinary finish. And yeah yeah; themovie is highly controversial for its *ahem* sexually exploitativescenes and accused male chauvinism....but honestly, this is all needed.I mean, heck, in no way, am I trying to justify the feminineportrayals/treatments in this film as genuine or politically correct.Because they aren't. However, they are real. And this film, which isn'tperfect by any means, is effectivelyreal. And for s digitalized and "mainstream" film, especially accordingto the films today and in retrospect, that's a mighty accomplishment!P.S. Best Line: Tie between ".......Jesus,......I got 'em all" and "YouOK?" (Both lines appear near the end of the film.-Tsuwamono

David Bowie actually is in the movie as well, which I found to be a great joy. He's at about 51 minutes in with a shark fin on his back. I have to say he was the highlight of the movie.
