Well done and interesting throughout. A good film from Ozu about arranged marriages, family traditions, and culture

Compensatory factors are the films insight into Japanese culture and the exceptionally beautiful women (including the newsreader). Despite being set in Japan this is not recommended viewing. I was bored and that rarely happens

ighly recommended!. Watch a great comedy of the everyman Glasses character and one that most people then and now could relate to in some way or another. The building climbing finale is both expertly staged and terrifying to watch as Lloyd teeters on the edge and dangles from multiple places on his long journey upwards. I rarely laugh out loud during films but I was dying laughing throughout the film. The film was amazingly staged and was hilarious from start to finish as well as unnerving in the amazing stunts performed by Lloyd. Being a big fan of both Chaplin and Keaton, this was my first experience with Harold Lloyd (thanks to The Criterion Collection's beautifully remastered Blu-ray version) and man was I impressed

asterpiece with this buddy cop film that not only commercialised the subgenre, but set the standards for similar films in years to come. Walter Hill directed an action

Good performances all round. Still, emotional and interesting nevertheless. Plus, writer-director Bruce Beresford pulls his punches with regard to Japanese atrocities in WW2 - the reality was a lot worse than the movie makes out. There had been numerous WW2 POW / survival-through-unbearable-hardship movies before this, and this isn't that different from those. Interesting story of survival, but it's not that original. Good, but not great

Potential missed because no one said "That's just wrong, don't", or perhaps someone wasn't listening. There's definitely something to it, but it has serious flaws, which is a shame

This is a Japanese movie, for too slow, but the story is so-so

The cinematography is fantastic and the story is perfectly bizarre in portraying the horrors of war. A very stunning and powerful film

Could have been a lot better
