Sarfara A (ca) wrote: In the Electric MistFranco-American film based on the novel In the Electric Mist with Confederate Dead by James Lee Burke. Written by Jerzy Kromolowski and Mary Olson-Kromolowski, and directed by Bertrand Tavernier. Starring Tommy Lee Jones as Louisiana police detective Dave Robicheaux, he also narrates the film. Dave Robicheaux (Tommy Lee Jones) is a police detective in the Louisiana bayou post-Katrina. When string of murders occur in the town, Dave promptly connects them to local mobster Julie Baby Feet Balboni (John Goodman), with flashback of decade old murder. Ever since No Country For Old Man, Tommy Lee Jones has ever been sparkling person to take on vicious incidents of murder in towns/localities. Tommy delivers stern performance, devoid of humor or whatever word exits out there. While to some folks, this is no gift from Tommy at all, but it sure is to those who actually feel rejoiced with presence of Tommy Lee Jones in thrilling-atmospheric plots. John Goodman looked typified mobster, and I think his character bears sound persona, but sadly he was done no justice to bring further dedication to this movie. As a diehard fan of Tommy Lee Jones, as well as fan of murder-mystery-plot (that I always die to look-out for) In The Electric Mist proved to be delicious treat for me (and I do expect the same for others).

Lauren P (de) wrote: Hilarious! Maggie Smith's character is deliciously homicidal and she does it with such grace. Rowan Atkinson is blissfully oblivious to everything and Kristin Scott Thomas completes the dynamic. If you like dark comedy, this is a must see!

Robert W (au) wrote: Despite it's awesome cast, the movie just doesn't work very well. Many scenes are completely superfluous and the plot is pretty incomprehensible.

Scott W (nl) wrote: John Le Carre's novels don't translate very well into movies in my opinion, with some real slogs like Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. This one is easier to follow, but still didn't really grip me. Things move at a pretty slow pace and I never really got invested in the characters. Nothing wrong with the actors here, especially Philip Seymour Hoffman. It has some interesting things to say about the war on terror but is mostly forgettable.

Kevin M W (fr) wrote: A nasty individual does the classic bad guy monologuing ... for the length of the film. It's about the cutthroat record business in London (ha ha). Starts cleverly enough but loses steam in the middle. There's a girl band send-up that could've been milked more.
